Travisr,

You need to break things down a bit to be able to realistically deal with them. First the fact that you're motivated is a good thing. The problem is the motivation which sounds like you think if you drop some weight you'll be back with your old girlfriend and things will be like the good old days. Get this out of your head.

The motivation needs to be selfish quite honestly. By that I mean you need to be the motivation, not another person, image or thing. The problem will come with your losing the weight and still having relationship problems and putting the weight back on as an excuse from the failure.

I think you'll find that if you take baby steps you'll find more success in the end. Trying to do everything at once and not seeing results in 30 days like all the adds proclaim is an recipe for disaster. First off you need to apply this business idea SMART-you need to have a goal; Specific, Measurable, Achieveable, Relevant & Time based. An example would be "To lose 15 lbs within two months."

You'll need to do two things, eat better and exercise. I've found that you generally can't have success with just one. You can run all you want but if you eat 3000 extra calories each day you'll never start to lose weight.

Start by cutting out extra calories, fat is not your enemy, Sugar and garbage-like food is. A good example of how much extra calories "we" consume is a can of Coke/Pepsi is about (1) mile of running. If you equate the food you eat, calories into how much effort it will take to burn those calories you'll eat more consciously. I subscribe to "low carb diet" which you can research in greater detail on this website under various forums-use the search field.

Secondly, become more active. Join a gym, buy some equipment and use it. Spend time with people who do the things that you need to start doing and they'll help influence your change in behavior. Use the internet as a good resource for simple tips in working out.

Overall break things down into simple steps, know that it takes time and have yourself as the motivating factor.

Good luck.
