If you're keeping a food journal - keep a mood journal as well - and figure out either on your own or with counselling why you are eating.

Only you can stop yourself from putting those chips in your mouth... So it's helpful to know why you are doing it.

But a simple tip is to not buy them - if they aren't around you - you can't eat them - or at the very least you'll expend some energy to go get them.

thank you for trying to help me, I have a very stressful and busy full time job and 2 young children, and at the end of the week on a friday and saturday night after doing everything for everyone else, and after the children are fast asleep, I want to self indulge, eat chocolate, drink wine and let myself go. I end up feeling full and sometimes I eat until I feel awful, but (I'm figuring this out while I write!) in a way it's like saying I'm going to do what 'I' want, eat what 'I' want to eat and drink as much wine as I like! Then I wake up Saturdays and feel awful, fat and hung over. I am a good mother and I work very hard all week, but I seem to need 2 evenings a week to let go, and that is how the weight has been creeping on:( I would love to here any ideas, solutions etc.......as I m very unhappy at the moment and want to break out of this habit

Its like I'm reading my own words a year ago. I made really easy alternatives like having low fat snacks around and eating more veggies and fruits instead of the chips. Quick tip is to switch from potato chips to corn chips. I know its one of the most hardest things ever but not having bad stuff in the house really helps. If you want something sweet take an apple or when having dinner not eating half your regular portion ... well a third at first probably. Just little things like that, focusing on taking out the fat in cooking and focusing on flavor.

^^ hope this helps a little *hugs*

thank you, I wish I found an apple an appealing treat for all the hard work I do but I can't:( maybe I should eat nothing al day Friday and treat myself in the evening

Hiya

Id say that that probably isnt hte best idea-not eating all day, you will feel reallly bad, and im sure there are loads of metablism related reasons aswell, but cant remmember exactely. If u have to havce some kind of treat, set yourself a treat. A small amount of it. Everything in moderation. Sticking to healthy eating otherwise apart from the treat, then phase it out, or whatever. Rather than not eating and then eating whaterve you want, which is probably going to be a lot, with the hunger of not eating all day.

Not eating all day is going to be the worst thing you can do. That will really slow down your metabolism.

You need to eat small regular meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism burning otherwise your body will stockpile the fat.

It is hard and a couple of months ago I was the same. But one day I truely had it and it became a whole lot easier.

Good Luck!!:D

Tuna is my number one snack.. high protein, which makes you feel fuller and very very little if any at all carbs and fat! So anything high in protein is good.
Google high protein snacks and you will find heaps

Salsa is also good, no fat.

Fresh raw veges, such as beans. I love them raw and you can dip things like celery sticks and carrot sticks in salsa dip.

Good Luck

Is there something that's not related to food that would be a treat for you and help you with your "relief" nights? A group of friends to get together with? It's hard for me to suggest things, because only you know your schedule / abilities. For instance, if I needed a "get away" night, my first choice would be to go to a friends' place and just be with someone and take my mind away from food. It's hard, though, since everything revolves around food. I go somewhere, and the first question is "can I get you something to eat?". I know they're trying to welcome me, but it's funny how we depend on food to do those things.
I find my temptation is greatest at night, a combination of loneliness and boredom for me, so I've found a bedtime routine (actually starts well before bedtime) that makes it harder for me to be tempted. It's not the easiest thing to eat chips while soaking in a tub full of hot water and bubblebath. I'm sure it can be done, and has been done, but it's harder.
Anyhow, that's my thought. Instead of trying to take something away from yourself (food), replace it with something else (friends, bath, etc). Only you know your time / money restraints, but hopefully something will come to mind.

Thank you very much for your help, I agree I need treats that are non food and That I need to get into new healthy eating habits. I am a great one for strong flavours in food, and prehaps I could find something with high taste and low calorie content, I shall be searching for high protein treats in a bit! A bubble bath sounds nice, I do enjoy them and I need to go out on fridays prehaps! Thanks again, any more ideas would be happily received!:)

I packed on 100 pounds, so your not alone...
You can beat this, just take it one day at a time...
Try an decrease fatty foods, and repelace with foods that arent as fatty.
There are tasty altrenatives to chips- You can beat this..
A daily journal would help. You can lose this weght!

Starvation diets never work- just try and cut down on quantity, and cut down on high fatty foods and cabrohydrates..
If you can exercise, that is also key.
