Hi, I am new to the forum and could use some advise.

I have reacently started on my path to a healthier, fitter life. I need to lose about 30-40 lbs. To do this I joined a gym about a month ago. I go to classes 5 days a week. These are a combo of cardio and weight training.
Monday-class that has combo of plyometrics, strength and cardio drills
Tuesday-Class combo of yoga and pilates
Wednesday-total body strength workout class
Thurday-Zumba class or elliptical.
Friday-Spin class

I also horseback ride three to five days a week.

I have added water to my life. I used to never drink water. I have been getting some now. Typically 40 plus ounces.

I have been calorie counting using an app on my phone. Typically about 1200 calories a day.

I have been gaining weight, or just maintaining. My pants are tighter!!! Please help! I want to do this the right way!!!!!

Thanks for looking!

Hi Storm & welcome to the forum. I'm no expert, but it looks to me like you will not be consuming enough calories to lose weight, with all the exercise you are doing. Are you inputting your exercise into your phone app? Have a good look around the forum at all the info that is there. A good start would be- http://weight-loss.fitness.com/threads/55758-Please-Read-Nutrition-101-Article
If you are able to see a nutritionist I would highly recommend it. I saw one after losing weight on a very restrictive plan & found it excellent. There is so much info out there, lots of it conflicting & it's good to get a guide.
It is early days yet with your new path but don't give up. With determination & finding the right balance, you will get there.Up your calories for a week & see what happens. Make sure the calories you are consuming are nutritious. Don't waste them. Drinking water is excellent. All the best, Cate

Hi! I agree with Cate. When you do that much exercise, it's REALLY important that you're consuming enough calories.

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the responses... Yes I am putting in my exercise into the phone app. So I had something like 1450 cals before the exercise that I did. So, I guess I will keep plugging along. I do not have access to a nutritionist. I really wish I did. I just wish the numbers would not be going up, or staying the same. I wish that there would be a downward trend! Oh well. I will keep plugging along! Thanks for the support!

It looks like your reletively new to this level of exercise, if so are you getting sore from the workouts ? if so when you have DOMS your body holds onto fluid in the muscles to help the body repair itself, this alone can cause an increase on the scales.

also looking at your workout schedule are Saturday and Sunday both rest days, is it possible to move one of those rest days to mid week ?

Hey welcome to the forum!
Sounds like you have a great plan in place!!
Your exercise plan is fantastic!! Go you!! I love the variety!

Thanks for all the support. I just talked to the trainer at the gym and they give free fitness assessments!!! She has her masters in nutrition. She will also look at my food journals for me!
I have two different jobs. So my Saturdays and Sundays are my only days I can rest. I wish I could move it around a bit but it is not possible.
I just really chose classes that I think I will enjoy and not burn out on. I do not want to lose interrest.

thanks!

Welcome to the forums, Storm. You have an aggressive workout schedule! Good luck in your endeavor to lose weight.

I just did the hardest spin class of my life!!!! What a killer. Also, deal at the gym for extra training sessions. So I am getting there. I still would like to see some results. How soon till everyone started seeing big results?

Welcome!! I admire your will to exercise! That is dedication right there. I hope that the nutritionist can provide some help for you. It can be frustrating, especially just starting off, working so hard and seeing the scale go up! I am confident you will work it out though. In the meantime, this place is a great support network. :)

Hi Storm! Welcome to the forums. :)

I still haven't seen big progress according to the numbers on the scale. I've been doing a lot of taebe and walking (outside and on the treadmill), but according to my scale I've only lost about 7lb in the last month to month and a half. I am seeing a big change in inches though! My clothes are becoming much looser and when I move my arms or legs in certain ways I can certainly see some muscle definition happening. I'd like for my scale to show a change too, but I'd rather look and feel healthy than to go by *that* number.

Keep doing what you're doing. I'm sure you'll start seeing and feeling a change soon. If not, maybe the trainer that's working with you can offer you some additional advice. :)

Good luck on your journey!

Thanks for all the kind words. I wish my clothes were looser then they are.
It was a hard weekend food wise... But, I was down a pound! Finally...
Back to good eating this week!

Great job on the pound loss! Don't let your clothes discourage you right now...let them motivate you! I've been at this a little over a month now and am awed at how different my clothes are fitting with just about 10 lbs gone. Just keep putting in the hard work and you will see results!

Camila-
Can you tell me what you are doing to lose that? We are about the same weight and have close to same goal weight... What are you doing? I have bee working out for 6 weeks and tracking my cals for 2 weeks with not much change.... Thanks!!!

So... I gained back the pound I lost. I am not sure what is going on. I will write down for the manager at the gym and have her evaluate my food.
I am really excited for my fitness evaluation on monday. We will then see what is going on (hopefully). I am counting calories and working out. Maybe increase my intesity of my workout?? I just wish that I would start to see some darn results!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It might be water weight. 1 lb is so hard to tell with. A person's weight can actually fluctuate as much as 10 lbs in a day, depending on sodium intake, water intake, and food intake.

Hey there :)

Sorry the process has been frustrating for you! I don't count calories...that's too much work for me lol.
Just small changes: I choose organic when it is available, I juice fresh green vegetable juice every single morning (honestly, one of the best things I have ever done for myself), drink lots of water, and try to learn about different, healthy foods. I've starting eating lots of quinoa and salmon...have started replacing regular ingredients with healthy counterparts (using extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil in place of regular oil...)...

So far my exercise has been pretty limited to walking and jogging outside. I've had great results!

If you ever want recipes or anything, lots of people here have great ones! Just ask :) We will help you out! You just gotta find a process that works for you and your lifestyle. Hope you start seeing results soon!

~Camila~
