Please help--drinking soda

I really need to stop drinking soda. I've read several articles on the reasons to stop, but I can't seem to make it work for me.

I used to drink two sodas a day. Now I'm down to one. I want to completely stop because I'm tired of being dependent on them to get through the day. I want my teeth and stomach (acid hurts it) to be healthier.

Even though I know I shouldn't and I tell myself I won't, I drink one anyway. It's impossible not to have sodas in my house because I'm living at home and my mom drinks them everyday. She refuses to give them up so they're always available.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Please help me break this bad habit.

Hey there, I know how you feel, I have a hard time keeping soda out of my every day diet. I used to drink about 2-3 glasses a day, now I'm down to a couple of glasses a week, and the rest I managed to cover with diet soda. I understand it is still soda, but it's the first step towards independence, make sure you always have some diet soda around, so when you open the fridge it's a matter of choice. Now I usually choose diet soda and sometimes even juice or water.
Hope it helps.

I always have water near me. I cut soda about 8 months ago cold turkey. Haven't looked back. Only time I have soda is when I'm drinking with friends and I decide to have a Morgan-Coke.

Keep a bottle of water near you. When you get that urge for a pop, just tell yourself NO. It took me like a week to get over wanting a pop. It's cake to say No to pop now.

Remember, H2O is your friend!

Thanks for the replies. I really should carry a bottle of water with me. I just forget about it in the morning before I go to class.

That's great that you were able to quit cold turkey, TLaude. I'd love to do the same, but I know that's probably not realist for me. Do you think it would help if I drink one less every week? Like, this week only drink 6; next week drink 5; etc. It'd take a while, but if it'll work, I'll do it.

I would say what ever works. Cutting down is a step in the right direction. I was able to cut out soda and coffee cold turkey over a year ago. All I drink is water and a occasional glass of milk. I am pretty much caffeine free.
