PigtoBig's Means to an end

Hey everyone,

I have been reading through these forums for awhile now. I finally decided today that I was going to become an active poster, and write down everything I am doing and share my experiences.

I was and am an athlete. I always have been. When I was much younger, it was football / wrestling / track. Later on, it was competitive weight lifting and boxing. Most recently, it has been rugby. However, through various means, fat kept creeping up on my body, and I never put it in check. I am making a drastic change in my life to get my body back to "Holy God, look at that monster" from its current state of "'Scuze me, big fella".

I am cutting out booze, reintroducing cardio, cutting out fast food, and am going to keep my goals in mind.

With all of that in mind, I have decided to keep a journal of sorts online with my story (how i got to where I am physical-wise), my progress, and everything I utilized to get there. My hope is to make it a place where people much like myself (people that used to be very active that let things get way out of hand / out of control) can go to either read through an account of someone going through what they are going through, or as a place where they can go for ideas.

After saying that, let me also say that all of this is also promoted strictly out of enlightened self-interest. If I know that people are reading what I'm doing, I will not only keep up that record, but it will serve as a source of drive for me to keep the path.

I will continue to post updates here, but I would really appreciate it if you guys took a peek at it, and added some comments here on what you liked / what you thought I could add / what you thought didn't need to be there.

Thanks a bunch

Edit:
After all of that, i forgot to post the link

One last thing. I will be hanging around, trolling these forums. Like I said, I have excessive experience with weight lifting and exercise. If anyone needs help working out any sort of program, I would be available to counsel you through the process of building out something that will work for you.

There is a ton of misinformation out there on the net. I would much rather take a couple minutes out of my day to promote safe and effective weight training than to see someone who is wasting their time, or asking for injury.

Thanks!

Hey there. :]

You should join sparkpeople, its by far one of my favorite sites for keeping track of my progress. except I had to use sparkteens, but i'm guessing they're similar enough.

The only thing I struggle with is filling my calories. If you know anything about that, i'd love some help!
I don't even get half of what I need most days, and I feel I could do alot better with upping my calorie intake.

'preciate that, cas, but I'm not focusing on specific calorie counting. I don't see myself counting calories for the rest of my life, so I am focusing on making better choices, and kicking myself out of the rut of headed to Mcdonalds or Taco Bell when I get hungry instead of just making a PBJ.

Things are going really well, though. I've changed my workouts to hit a 4 day cycle (Chest/Tri, Back/Bi, Delt/Trap, OFF). I decided against including a set leg workout in there because of all of the cardiovascular activity that I am doing, and because I have injured every joint in my lower body through lifting, rugby, or any of my highschool activities, and I don't want an injury there to set back my cardio. If I strain my deltoid, that doesn't stop me from doing interval training. If I set off my bad ankle, I'm benched for at least a week.

Well i'm glad to hear things are going well so far!
I'm doing pretty good too, though i've had to watch what i'm doing because its cold here and I have arthritis in my knees

I'm not really a big calorie counter myself, though there were days I was obsessive about it. I've been making healthier choices and i'm satisfied with that for now.

Keep up the good work:]

Day ten of constant intense physical workouts, and I'm down 8.5 lbs. I lost about 7 REALLY quick, but that was obviously just a flush of water. I've changed my water intake habits, and weighed after a meal and before working out this time, as opposed to the quick-loss weigh in where I hadn't eaten lunch yet, and I had worked out.

As I've been doing this, I realized that there were things I wanted to change even aside from just straight weight loss. I wanted to build up my forearms and calves. I have heard many many people describe me like Mr. Incredible from that pixar movie when they are being polite, and a fridge on stilts when they aren't. So, I decided that I want to make my body more proportional, and those two specific groups now have more of a place in my workouts than prior, when they were just an afterthought if I had enough concentration left.

Good stuff. Just a quick update.
