Prior to me getting the Orbea Onix road bike in 11/07, my main ride was a 1989 Klein Quantum that I had had since 1995 and had put more than 10,000 miles on it. Because I wanted to use the Klein but I didn't need another road bike and didn't want to buy a tri bike and because the Klein has aggressive geometry for a road bike (74.5 seat tube, 74 head tube), I decided to convert it to a makeshift tri bike by:
-Replacing the Cinelli road bars with a base bar and Profile Designs Carbon Strike aero bars,
-Adding Dura Ace 9 speed bar end shifters, Dura Ace rear derailleur, and a 105 chain and 9 speed cassette,
-Replacing the wheels with Ritchey Pro DS wheels that I got from TSILCYC - (thanks Vince!)
-Replacing the seat with an Adamo tri seat
-Replacing the aluminum Chorus seatpost with a Profile Design Fast Forward carbon seatpost
I think it turned out okay, but only time will tell. Later, I may decide to swap the parts to a dedicated tri frame.
This is a much different position than riding a road bike with aero bars or a road bike on the drops, so it will take me a while to get used to this. I plan on using this on April 5.
