Personal Trainer Woes

Hi,

I'm a 22 year old female college student, I weigh roughly 180lbs and am 5'10.

2 months ago I hired a personal trainer through the gym I frequent with the intention of getting a higher level of fitness and some inch loss over my summer vacation. I did the necessary research regarding his qualifications and peer/client reviews. He was highly recommended by the owner of the gym and many acquaintances that worked with him.

So far so good, I met with him, got started on a program and arranged to meet with him once a week. The amount of sessions I paid for would take me to the week before my return to campus.

First, there was a small problem regarding the expediency with which I received my programs for each week, they'd chronically be emailed to me a day or two late. However, I overlooked this.

Next, he informed me that he had to switch our hours due to a change in his work schedule, and then once we agreed upon another date he emailed to cancel and did not schedule a repeat appointment. After two weeks of chasing him around to get an appointment scheduled we finally "agreed" on another time which would apparently suit him and resumed our weekly deal.

This lasted for one session, at the end of which he said he reassured me that he would be available the following week. Later the same week I receive an email that he is unavailable for yet another two weeks due to "personal issues he needs to attend to".

This brings us up to speed with where I am. Two weeks has passed and I have not received any indication as to whether this person is available or not to train.

At this point I do not know what the appropriate step is, as I still have well over $500 worth of sessions paid for which I need done, however there is no way it will get done going once a week at this point, especially if any more hiccups like this occur.

The only other trainer available at the gym is a woman who has been described as incompetent and disinterested. It is important to note that when this trainer IS available the workout and programs he provides have been quite successful and I have seen a change is my fitness and appearance.

I'm afraid if I go to the owner of the gym and file a complaint this may force this trainer to do his job but at the cost of an uncomfortable work environment for us both. A refund is also not possible at this gym.

Any advice as to what I should do would be great. My apologies for the long post.

This personal trainer is not showing you a very professional attitude. They should leave the slot you have free for the following week free, especially if you have paid up front for a number of sessions. Also if they have to cancel then they should at least keep you up dated on a regular basis and re-book your session as soon as possible.

If you subsribed to a weekly magazine, you would expect to get it on a weekly basis, and if you didn't then you would probably get a refund if you were not impressed with the service.

Options for you would be to get a refund, or speak to the owner, you could do this via a letter but don't put your name to it if you are worried about the relationship.

A refund is also not possible at this gym.

A refund is very possible at all gyms regardless of their policies or wording in the contracts they make you sign. There's a thing called the law that's far more powerful than company policy, you haven't been given the service you paid for so get your money back and hire someone new

If you paid by credit card, you could also request a chargeback, but it sounds like you want to continue to use him, but stop the bulls----.

I would email him back and tell him that I am going to schedule an appointment to meet with the owner and would like to attend as well. If he has a shred of professionalism, he will see that as very threatening and respond positively. If he doesn't comply, schedule the appointment with the owner as the trainer was justly noticed and was not blindsided, which would make any attempt to work with him in the future impossible.

Hi,

Your trainer is an idiot!! How tough is it to get business these days and yet here he is throwing your business down the.....!

Definitely get a refund, and tell all your friends about him!

If you need some other options to help you train please PM me. You can still get yourself on track.

Cheers
Steve

That is not fair on you. We spend so much money on PT and we expect results as well as being able to have them on a regular basis.

If you want to continue having him, you need to let management at the gym know what has been happening and that you think this is not up to standards. It is not a eprsonal thing, so he should not feel uncomfortable with you if he does shape up.

What type of gym only has two PTs available to their clients. Try the female and see if she is better.

I do not like the vibe of this gym. What happened with face to face communication. Everything with them is through email? My gym doesn't do that

You need to go to the owner of the gym and let him/her know that you are completely disatisfied and want a refund. Do not let him/her tell you that is not possible. You paid for a product and did not get it.

If you have trouble asserting yourself, take a male that will be assertive.

Gotta agree. Having worked as a trainer myself, your trainer is completely unprofessional. Go to the owner, be prepared for them to try and get you to wait on it, and then DEMAND a full refund. If that doesn't work, kick them all in the balls.
