After introducing myself to this community in the Newcomers part of the Forum, I'm now starting my weight loss diary. It seems kind of fun :hat: and I have faith that it'll help me in my goal.

I thought it would be a good thing to start with the Sticky Questionaire, just to put everything out there so I could face it all myself. Here we go.

How much weight do you want to lose?

20 lb

What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?

3-6 months.

How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?

Stopping to look for comfort in food, increasing the intensity of my 3 walkies a day (I have a dog that must be walked 3 times a day), practice Yoga at home at least twice a week, have 3 balanced meals a day instead of munching on junk food all day long.

Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?

Myself and perhaps the Forum.

How realistic is your goal?

Pretty realistic, as long as I stick with it without too many slips.

When will you start?

July 2011

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?

138 lb

Why do you want to lose weight?

I feel dismotivated for many of the things I love doing (and clothes I love wearing) because of my extra weight, I want to feel that my body is flexible and capable of anything, I must reduce the pressure on my knees and in general feel healthier and happier.

Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?

Nope, no specific life event, just personal satisfaction and health.

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?

The food in the cantine with my work colleagues, comfort food when I'm upset or anxious.

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?

I believe we have a problem when we are fighting something over and over again expecting one result and not achieving it. I've been on the Yo-Yo game for 20 years...

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?

Perhaps trying to have a food budget, even though I don't have a clue how to do it, would stop me from spending money on countless sweets (sweettooth busted!). Keeping my anxiety under control and being aware not to compensate it with comfort food (that I already try to avoid in the house), avoid people who like to eat only in restaurants.

Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?

Yes. What worked best is not something we get everyday. I was increadibly happy and relieved after leaving a bad marriage, so Life was nurturing me and I had no need to turn to food for comfort. But Life is not always like that and things occasionally happen.

Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?

Always the same problem: anxiety control. I've done quite a few years of therapy to learn to be aware of my triggers and what to do when it happens, and I'm MUCH better, but still sometimes I slip.

What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?

Crazy diets make my body crave for the forbidden things. Counting calories don't work as well as I tend to forget to log into my "food diary". Having a bit of everything and trying to control size of portions seem to work better and ease my anxiety.

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?

No. Have done that a few times, it NEVER worked for me.

Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?

Yes, I cook at home everyday basically, and I love cooking my own food and exploring new recipes. I keep to the basic white meats and fish (I don't really like red meat, even though when my body asks for a steak, I feed it), I like trying different risotti recipes and playing with spices.

How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?

Occasionally, but I try to avoid it, because when I do, I find it very hard to keep just to a salad and not order the 4 cheese pizza.

What are your three favorite foods?

Risotto, berries, bread.

What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?

Lowering the amount of cooking oil, eat wholefoods (which I already do), increase intake of fruit (which I barely do.)

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?

Slimmer thighs and my belly would be flatter.

Do you eat when you are not hungry?

Yes, when I'm anxious or bored. I have that thing "am I hungry? - No, I just feel like eating!"

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?

Used to, but that has been under a good control for a good time now. Occasionally I go and buy a packet of crisps with all intentions to eat it all in one go, but after 3 or 4 I find it too aggressive to my mouth.

Do you hide your food or eat in secret?

I hide food from myself - if I don't see it, I forget about it and I don't feel like eating it. Apart from that, no.

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?

Yes.

Do you eat as a reward?

Not always, but sometimes.

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?

Not really. I usually read a book when I'm eating.

What do you normally eat for a meal?

Usually one protein (an egg, or a chicken thigh or a good Salmon filet), I try to put some sort of veggies in my plate (usually cooked as I don't really like leaf salads) and a carb (a slice of bread or some rice).

What type of snacks do you eat?

Wholewheat pretzel sticks, an apple or a pear, if I'm anxious or bored I look for chocolate.

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?

I have a dog who needs to walk three times a day, so I walk three times a day, 20-30mins each time, but usually on a slow pace - my dog dashes around off the leash and I just stroll lazily around the park.

Where do you go for exercise?

Local parks.

A local public gym? School/work gym?

I hate the gym!

Home?

Yes, occasionally I do Yoga at home (VERY occasionaly) and work with a balance ball and Pitales ring for the legs.

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?

Hiking, Yoga, walking, playing collective sports (but never have the chance).

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?

Daily: i want to feel flexible and energised
Weekly/monthly: be able to arrive at the end of the week or the end of the month without feeling exhausted
Yearly: feeling super healthy.

Do you have rewards for certain goals?

Nope... should I? Rewards never worked for me, not even when my parents grounded me, promising a reward in exchange for a better behaviour. Rewards always sounded to me like "blackmail" - if you don't do this, I won't give you that. Doesn't work.

So, here is my questionaire. Let's see how everything goes.

Starting NOW!

Welcome! No doubt you will meet your goals.

Thanks for having faith! I do hope so :seeya:

Hello all,

This is my second post to this diary, which is already something to be proud of - even though it's only my "second" post, at any other situation trying to keep a diary would have been almost impossible, and I would probably not have written a "second" post, so I'm already happy for that.

But am not happy about how my "diet" has been doing so far. I had a date the day after I joined the forum - a hiking date, which was ok since hiking is one of my favourite exercises. The date turned out to be awful though, but I digress. Anyway, during the hiking, we stopped for lunch at a restaurant in a castle on top of the hill, and I had a chocolate cheese cake for dessert (only good part of the date), and after I was back home (and alone) I treated myself with a couple of scoops of mandarine icecream. Fine, the icecream was a sorbet, so less fattening, but cheesecake and icecream in one day was a bit too much. The following day I was frustrated that the date didn't turn out well (there were no sparks... or what's the opposite of spark anyway?), so I comforted myself with a few slices of lemon cake... which is already in the bin so I'm not tempted to eat any more of it!

BUT I've been able to keep my scheduled increase in intensity of my walks. Millie (my dog) and I have been waking up at 0700 every morning, and going for a 30min power walk everyday. Her other walkies during the day I take it a bit easier, but the morning one is a power one. She's loving it! Me? Am still getting used to it again. Which means I haven't lost anything that I wanted to lose yet... but at least the scale tells me I haven't put anything on, which would have happened had I not been doing the power walks.

Next week my holidays are over and work starts again. That'll be a challenge to keep a healthy routine and still go to work, but I'm thinking in some ways it'll be easier, as my mind will be focussed and I won't have too much spare time to think about food.
I MUST stop relating comfort to eating though. Anyone there has a recipe for that??

Always persiting,

BrzlianGirl
