I am an 18 year old football(soccer) player and because of a very frustrating injury, have only played roughly 2 games in the last year!
It started in may 2008 when I was filling in as a goal keeper during training. 30 mins into training I felt a twinge in my right groin, after I lunged to the right. As I have never had an injury before, I thought nothing of it and continued as there was little pain (Probably 2-3/10).
The pain is located at the top of the groin, almost certainly the tendon.
I also tried to keep training with the injury for the following 2 weeks which undoubtedly made it worse. At this point the pain was high (About 6-7/10). I decided to rest for 3 weeks to let it heal, but as soon as I started training I felt it go again.
I tried to return to training another 2 more times that season in 2008, but with the same result. (The training I returned was not very intense either, just some light jogging and ball work.)
During the off season I gave it complete rest to try and be fit for this season, but at this point the adductor was very tight and even slight movements such as getting in out and out of bed would result in my groin pulling once more.
With some luck, my injury seemed to be gone when I was able to commence pre-season training in march 2009 and for a month my groin had no pain, but there was still a tightness present that i was cautious of. Unfortunately though, i was sidelined for 2 weeks due to glandular fever, and on my return to training pulled my groin again.
I then seeked medical advice from a sports doctor who sent me for an x-ray and bone scan. The scans revealed that my right sacroiliac joint was partially fused. At first this was dismissed as the cause of the pain, but later on the doctor believed that this was causing instability in my hip and putting pressure on my adductor.
With this new information the doctor sent me to a physio, as he believed that normal physio work would heal this injury. Frustratingly though, 6 weeks later my groin felt worse, and i stopped going as they were $60 a session.
This is starting to get extremely frustrating, and i am willing to try anything to get into it. Is there perhaps a surgery available for me? Or has anyone had a similar problem to me?
Any help is appreciated.
