Period troubles

Hey, Since i've been trying to lose weight for about 7 months or so my period has never been irregular but in the last 2 months it seems to have completely disappeared, can that be normal? I didn't think much of it but i'm kind of wondering now.

I don't think i have overdone exercise or anything, thought i might see if anyone else has this trouble??

Thanks C x

lol, the first thing I thought was "are you pregnant" you asked about waist inches and period trouble...but thats just me reading in to things, lol.

Hmmmm how much do you weigh, I know if youre underweight it can mess w/ your period. I've never heard of excercise messing with it though. You might want to ask your gyno :)

You don't have to be underweight to lose your period. It also has a lot to do with nutrition and emotional wellbeing (eg high stress). Dramatic changes to your body can do it too-such as losing a lot of weight quickly even if you are still a normal weight and are eating ok.

So it is prob nothing big BUT be wary about it. If you lose it for too long the lack of estogren starts to result in bone loss (and by too long I don't mean years, I mean say 6 months). If you don't get it next month go to a doctor, they will prob do a prolactin level test

Loss of period can be result of sudden weight loss, sudden weight gain, extreme changes in nutrition, overexercising, stress, and many other things. I agree with ooo...if you don't get it next month see a gynecologist.

that is right. I put on 100 lbs and lost my period never got it so now i have to be on the pill to get it .... but the pill dont make me gain weight thank god :)

This might sound slightly odd then but recently ive also started to get some darker hairs around my stomach, they'r really fine but even so i havn't had them before and reading about having a lack of estrogen, is this a all because of a hormone imbalance. hmm.

While I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on the internet -two symptoms just stuck out at me -the body hair and absent periods -

sounds liek you might have PCOS

Polycystic ovarian syndrome presents a complex and baffling array of symptoms, consisting of some combination of the following symptoms that vary with each individual:

Multiple ovarian cysts
Irregular or absent menses
Infertility
Acne
Obesity or inability to lose weight
Excessive body or facial hair (hirsutism)
Insulin resistance and possibly diabetes
Thinning of scalp hair
Velvety, hyperpigmented skin folds (acanthosis nigricans)
High blood pressure
Polycystic ovaries that are 2-5 times larger than healthy ovaries.
Multiple hormone imbalances, commonly including:
Androgens (testosterone)
Cortisol
Estrogens
FSH (follicle stimulating hormone)
Insulin.
LH (luteinizing hormone)
progesterone
Prolactin.
Thyroid hormones.

If you haven't been to the gyno in more than ayear -get yourself there...

I know nothing about you and how you approach food and weight loss so I may be completely off track here.

But I will say that just going by what you have said- missing period, body hair, and relatively low weight (I don't know your height mind you)

But those all ring the bell for a possible eating disorder. Plus the fact that you mentioned the body hair makes me think you might be thinking the same thing. It seems quite a coincidence that you would think to mention that, as lanugo is symptom of anorexia

Admitly I things like that stand out to me because I used to have an ed, that's why I knew about possible reasons for losing your period.

If I am completely wrong: I'm sorry, don't take it offensively. It is just what came to mind

Here are some facts (not a diagnosis):
If you lose weight too fast, or even gain weight to fast you can get amenorrhea (the absence of a period) or can simply cause you to be irregular until your body finds a leveling point.
And yes, if you become underweight you can suffer from that too.
If you become anorexic you also grow a lot of body hair like the hair that is on a new born baby. The reason for this is that you lack the body fat to keep your body warm and the hair forms as a way to compensate.
I had amenorrhea for other reasons this past year and learned about some of the other causes.
But, you should see a doctor just to rule out everything :)
Best of luck.

Just to let you know why I had problems....
I went off of birth control pills. :) Which can cause your periods to get all funky.
Switching pills can do this too.
But like i said before. SEE A DR!
