Pcos

I've been reading a little on it and I believe this could be the cause of my many problems concering my monthly cycle.
My main concern is, does it eliminate my chances to get pregnant in the future? Will it go away when I do get healthier? Is it caused by being overweight?
I will definitely ask about it when I finally make an appt.

Hi April,

Many women with PCOS do have children on their own, some need medication to assist in allowing them to ovulate, because many women do not release eggs monthly when they have PCOS>

It will probably never "go away" or be "cured" but by losing weight and being healthy you can manage it a little bit better and by losing weight you may see that you are ovulating more often, having regular and shorter monthly cycles... etc

How Losing Weight Helps

By losing weight, through diet and exercise, women affected by PCOS are more likely to have:

* Regular periods
* More ovulatory cycles
* Reduced hairiness
* Stabilized hormone levels
* Reduced risk of heart disease

Most importantly, though, weight loss will contribute to lowering insulin levels. Because high insulin levels has been found to contribute significantly to the many PCOS symptoms, reducing your insulin levels should result in an improvement in acne and hirsutism as well as decrease your risk for heart disease and diabetes.

Because weight loss has shown to have such a significant affect on the symptoms of PCOS, experts are now recommending that following a healthy diet and getting regular exercise be used as a first line treatment. However, in some cases, drugs like Metformin may still be prescribed. Also find out other ways to monitor your PCOS and manage your periods.

Also, you could find out if you are ovulating by "temping" Basically you get your temperature every morning when you wake up and then record the temp into a program, fertility friend has a free one, and when you see a dip then a spike in temp you know you ovulated.
