patellar tracking disorder

During the past fall I was on my schools cross country team. Towards the end of the season my knees began to kill, and I found out I had patellar tracking disorder. 5 months later my knees arent any better. Does anyone know any exersizes to strengthen my patella/ any leg workouts I can do without upsetting my knees. I really can't do anything that involves bending my knees such as squats, which is terrible as they are probably the best exersize for the legs. Help!

Ok heres my advise,

Google.com
patellar tracking disorder + Exercise
patellar tracking disorder + rehabilitation

While your waiting for someone who might have knowledge with your problem. It would be wise to lurk around google and do some searches about it.

There could be several things going on, so you’ll definitely need someone (qualified) to evaluate your patellar function (static and dynamic alignment). More often than not, patellofemoral stress syndrome is caused by one or more or a combination of the following: tight iliotibial band causing the patella to track laterally, weak vastus medialis oblique (VMO- medical portion of quads), excessive pronation (usually due to structural deformity of the foot), tight hamstrings, high sitting patella, and I’m leaving some out here…Unfortunately, can’t tell you what is causing your PFSS, but you need to find out if you hope to fix the problem. Go see an osteopath, athletic therapist or physiotherapist…Good Luck!

similar issue!

I posted a similar question just last week, and got some good suggestions in this thread:

I have started incorporating some of the suggestions into my workouts, but it's too soon to really say what has or has not helped. I can say that nothing has gotten worse. :D From what I understand of this type of problem, the single leg exercises sound like they will be most useful. And I like the dynamic stretching - it feels like a much better warm up.

Hope that helps!
