Pain - after running...

Well as the title states,
I'm a former football player and I damaged something the last season I played,
I ran a half marathon a couple months ago without training, I paid for it, but was still the highlight of my summer.

I went for a job with a friend the other day and aafter the run the side of my knee really hert after. not the knee cap but the outside on the bend on my knee. like the joint.

I ran at about 6am by nightfall my knee was fine. but for the day when I lay down I couldn't left my leg.
I plan to see a sports doc soon, I'm just worried.. surgery???
is it water in the knee or scar tissue due to my football days??

any opinions?

PS. I plan to beat my half marathon by one hour next summer, of course with training this time. :) Goal: just under 2hours.
thanks.

I have had this too, where I feel fine during the run, maybe a tiny amount of pain. Hours later, my knee (or both sometimes) will be very sensitive on the side, and after that, will feel like bone on bone, like they are rusty hinges, lol! Especially if I sit for awhile, bending them after sitting will be quite painful.

The only thing that works for me is to rest a day or two, then I am fine. Some Advil while the pain is around is a good thing (brings down swelling and kills the pain).

well, sometimes and in the future, a day of rest may not be an option.
I have certain goals that will be killed by a knee injury.
I'll go se a doctor. Maybe I need some acupucture. :yelrotflmao:

I use "Osteo Biflex" for my old knee pain and I haven't had it since I started that stuff. It feels like it lubes up my joints. Took about a week to notice a significant difference in the pain level after a run. I too have battled with this injury. The things that worked for me were ice right after a run, making sure you stretch after you're warmed up, and again after you run and wearing a knee band. Mine was mostly patellar tendonitis but I had some other side of the knee issue too. I hope some of that might help you.

Hi,

The pain you are describing might well be caused by a scarred tear on the lateral collateral ligament of the knee. If your problems continue you should surely visit a doctor.
