P90x

Can someone please tell me what the p90x is. Is it a video? DVD? I"ve seen a lot of references to it. Is it expensive? How much?

Do you do it at home? Or do you have to go to the gym? What do you need to do it?
Do you need equipment?

Is it an exercise program that you could describe as the 21st century version of calisthenics.

Or is it weights?

What else can you tell me about it please?

I know P90X is probably a good program...but its been soooo over marketed that it makes me cringe when I hear its name, lol!!

When I say over marketed, I dont' mean, just commercials. They have P90x "parties" where people are supposed to invite friends over and have some rep. meet them at their house, ect. Just seems "scammish" to me, but I suppose if you actually do the program you could get some good out of it.

What it is, IS a seriously intense workout DVD. I assume it comes with some kind of eating program/suggestions..but I dont' hear much about that..its always the workout. BUT its really hard. Alot of people that I know say you have to be in pretty good shape to even attempt to do it?

My older brother has had the P90x DVDs and the info packet thingies for a while, but aw man! Those work outs are so hard!!! I find that I'm able to make it through the strength sessions fine, but when it comes to cardio I'm about to drop only halfway through, at least I know I really need to work on my stamina from this.

There are some things you'll need like weights, pull up bar, resistance band and other stuff but! Im not using weights. If you're not someone who's pumpin' iron all the time I suggest going at it slow (like I am). I did the chest and back plus Ab ripperX yesterday without any weights or resistance band and I feel it! And its just like Korrie said, it is another set of exercise dvds. I do find that the instructor (can't remember his name) is so funny and gets you pumped up through out the work out. I got the same motivation from the biggest lose 30 day jump start DVD. If I'm entertained, I will most likely use that dvd more often than not.

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys. Of course i should not even have asked the question but given your answers, i think it was worth asking.

After i posted i google and saw a wikipedia entry which i read. It does explain it all very clearly. ...wiki is great. long live wiki.

I think its not a scam korrie but a good business with probably a pretty good product by the looks of it. So long as you stick to it. I think it is particularly geared to people who already have a basic level of fitness and a reasonable weight. From what i read on wiki and what penguin was saying, i think it would be too hard for people much overweight and with very little cardiac fitness or muscle strength.

I'd be happy to have a go but i'm not going to fork out for my gym set. I think i will stick to yoga. Korrie have you tried yoga. I just found a nice yoga video workout on you tube. Its on my diary thread but there are others. I am going to give it a try tomorrow morning i hope before breakfast. All you need for yoga is a mat, carpet will do, a folded blanket and maybe a smallish pillow.

It is so sucky that i can't afford going to regular classes.

well, i know i said scam, and by definition a scam is something that wants to get your money and leave you with no product/results. I know p90x is not a scam...I just meant that it felt that way to me by the way they have these parties and they have people that are supposed to talk all their friends into coming and such. BUT like I said, a scam leaves you with no results and I know as long as you DO THE PROGRAM you will get results, so in that way its not a scam, I know, I didn't mean to imply that it actually was...just had that feel to it, to me.

No, I've never done yoga, but I have done pilates and I have a Leslie Samsone walking dvd that i love :)

P90x is ok if your not already fit but not all that hard if you have a reasonable base fitness level and easy for someone with good fitness levels.
