Overtraining...

Hey guys,

I know all of you are anxious to lose fat and get in shape fast, but just wanted to warn you guys about overtraining.

As some of you know, I had been doing everything in my capabilities to shed this fat. I had been doing cardio 6 days a week and weight training 3-4 times a week. Just this past week, I did 40 min of running for six straight days. Usually, I would feel good and energetic after my runs, but I felt rather lethargic and tired after my last one on Saturday. I thought it would go away in time. Well, it didn't.

Yesterday, I had a pretty bad fever, and I couldn't get off the bed. It was terrible! I now realize that I definitely overtrained, and had put too much stress on my body. I still feel pretty sick today, so I'm gonna take another day off from training. This really sucks.

I think it's important to push ourselves, but at the same time, I think it's important to know our limits and be easy on our bodies sometime.

I hope you feel better! :) Can you tell me if I'm over training?

I used do 30 minutes of biking. It usually burns off about 100 calories. Is that too much or too little?

Thanks.

30 min of biking is perfectly fine. In fact, you could do even 60 min of biking and still be alright, since its intensity is less than that of running.

I was doing 40 min of running six days a week, sometimes two sessions per day. Now that's overtraining for someone like me who had just started out five weeks ago. = )

I've been out completely for the past two days. I caught a pretty severe cold (first time in over a year), and I'm barely getting through it as we speak. Not only could I not exercise, but I couldn't really stick to my diet as well.

Overtraining is costing me a lot... man... I can't wait till i can get outside again and start running and lifting weights...

Anybody have any advice? Should I plan on resting and sleeping until I feel healthy again? Exercising would only hurt me at this point, right?
