Ouch

On Wednesday night I worked my triceps fairly hard. Not suprisingly my arms were a bit stiff yesterday, but I did stretch and massage arms as well as take a hot bath to relax the muscles.

Everything felt fine last night before going to bed but this morning I have woken up and my triceps absolutely kill. Any ideas why this might be? I know a bit of stiffness and soreness are normal, but this feels a little more than that.
 
Sounds like some bad muscle trauma. Try to stay off it for a few days. If it persists, see a doctor. You might want to refrain from the deep massages and stretches after working out. They can both promote further muscle damage.
 
It's called DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). It usually occurs 24 or 48 hours after the exercise session. A certain amount of it is normal after a strenuous workout (usually most pronounced when you do something you have not done in a while; either a different movement or more strenuous work than you are used to). You have to learn your body and what constitutes dangerous overwork and what is just a sign of a good workout.
 
^^Agreed. If it is very uncomfortable then take a few ibuprofen. If it continues, see a doc.

Everything seems OK now. I was quite worried because I was in quiet a lot of pain, but it did gradually die down throughout the day.

Next time I do my triceps I might have to take it a little easier.
