Optimal workout recovery?

Currently, I workout Mon, Wed and Fri. I do full upper body Monday, Friday and legs on Wednesday.

I figure this is good recovery time and i hit all muscle groups.

My schedule has just opened up and i can workout whenever i want to. So, what is optimal for working out? 3 days a week, 4 days a week, 5 days a week? What do you think?

Goals are to gain muscle and strength. I do cardio on Tuesday and Thursday, but not much. I only run 1.5 miles and that takes me 11:20. I just do that to keep my speed up and I've heard it's healthy...

I'm 5'7 150lbs.

Bench 185 max
Squat 245 max
Deadlift 245max
 
Take a look at the routines in the sticky "feel like posting your......" as they are described well with what you can expect to gain from them.
I believe the tried and tested full body 3 days a week on non-consecutive days is still the best for size and strength.
The 5x5 and 10x3 are pretty intense so you might want to give them a try if you haven't already.
Regarding cardio, if you really want size and strength maybe do some HIIT for 15 mins after 2 of your workouts instead of steady cardio on what should be your recovery periods.
 
You could even go into a 4 day split routine. Upper, Lower, Upper, Lower. This way your training Upper & Lower x2 per week.

Or even a muscle group split...Legs, Back/arms, Shoulders/chest. All i say is experiment! :)
