opposite effects...how come??

Guys it s now 2 weeks I ve started with some swimming and weight exercises twice a week..also I ve changed a bit my diet...not much, just, I ve reduced carbs at dinner in favor of more veggies and meat...well since now I just feel like I m slimmer than I was...dunno..the weight scale always says 72Kg (159lb and 182cm tall) but I dont feel like I m encreasing in any way...it s weird isn t it??

plus is it normal that when I do squat I feel it more on my lower back than on my legs? i think I do it in the correct way but while I m doin it I feel more my back burnin than my legs..

...any advices??..cheers

the squat works the lower back. remember to keep it streight and not bend the back:p
if you are doing cardio and weight training its possible that you have lost fat and gained muscle, thus the scale not moving, dont look at ur scale, look at your body:p

Thanks for answering...well that s the thing..I feel slimmer..not a good sensation...should I stop cardio(swimming) ? Is it possible to define and increase at the same time? I mean cardio should define and weights should encrease mass...dunno whatta do?

feeling your back more than your legs on squats is usually a bad sign, be careful! Get someone who's experienced to show you how to do it and check out your form

I ll try to ask someone to check me out while I m doin squats...actually I m pretty sure I m doin it correctly...coz I learned how to do it...I m careful with my knees and I keep straight my back and my abs as well..I pull a bit my bum back in order to work with my legs...

if your upper body getts very paralell to the floor i guess that would make you use the lower back a bit more than if it wasnt very paralell. if you know what i mean?

and do you want to bulk or cut? or do you want to bulk and cut? if u want to bulk and cut i think ur doing it right, however im no expert so you should get a second opinion. when bulking your gaining mass, prefferably most muscle ofcource, and when cutting you want to decrease the fat. when you bulk you often gain some fat with the muscle but doing the cardio can prevent that, so you probobly wont gain as much weight as if you did only bulk, but you probobly wont gain as much fat either. though i think in general bulking AND cutting at the same time is pretty hard to do.

thanks for the advices...well my aim is to build mass(muscles) but since I m not a bb I dont need to become huge..just be defined and gain 2 kg of muscles with basic exercises( squats, bench press..)...
I now weight 72Kg (159lb) and I m 184 cm tall...I d like to become 74Kg but not to cover my abdom with fat( that s the area where most fat goes..sigh!

So i m doing cardio and weights twice a week..

till now I just feel thinner...

well one year ago my weight was 62kg. I now weigh the same as you, 72kg. My aim is to get to 80kg by july.

How did i reach 72kg? Well, ironically, most of the mass was obtained during the summer when i didn't exercise at all, but just ate alot (+3kg). Other than that, just keep on training (i'd say more frequently to the gym) and eat a lot. And with a lot i really mean a lot. Though im not even close to an expert i do have some personal experience... the more you train, the more apetite you get, the more you eat and consequently the more you *should* gain

thanks mate for sayin your personal experience...one thing I want to ask u....while u ate a lot did u gain weight and mass as form of muscles or just as fat?
thanks...

i have been doing the squats for quite some time now

tell me is it ok to lean the upper body(back straight) a little forward while on the way down?
i find it difficult to keep my knees in line with the toes without lean forward a little
is that ok or should i go over my form

also feeling your back muscles work is that a sign that your back is weak?

keep your back straight doesn t mean keep it perpendicular to the floor...u have to pull your bum back whilst keepin your back and abs as much staright and in tension as u can( in a nutshell your back doesnt have to create a "bow" shape). Only now you start the discent part with your legs...with your feet not in a parallel position but slightly divergent outside.. now u should manage to keep your knees on your foot line...I dunno If I m clear..(sorry I m not english..) and I m not a professionist trainer...so either wait for other suggestions or tell me if it doesnt sound clear what I just said!

well its hard to tell whether i gained muscles or fat. Besides, most "observations" are usually neurologic, i.e. what your mind wants your body to look like. I'd say my overall stand has improved and i've gained some muscles. From a theoretic point of view, i should have gained only fat during the summer, and muscles during the exercise weight gain period :D

well gip, id stick with it, you feel thinner but the scale is still the same? that means u lost fat (which makes ur muscles more visible) and that you have gained muscle, keep it up and i think u will eventually start gaining muscle weight, but i dont know how skinny you are now. are your abs defined? do you have alot of loose fat that hang around? judging from ur height/weight you dont, but u never know:p

Do Deadlifts and squats, they are ESSENTIAL if you want to gain muscle mass they will make your entire body bigger, not only legs as some people seem to think:p

and if you start loosing weight, you just got to eat more, personally im bulking now, i just eat as much as i can during the day and i have gained maybe 5 kg since i started :S some of it might be fat, but im not noticing any change.. but that might be since ive always been very skinny, fat doesnt have the habbit of staying on my body:p

thanks karky...yeah I m pretty skinny that s why I wanna gain mass...I don t have exceeding fat even though my abs are not too defined( in fact I dont understand why..!!) In my other Thread I ve opened (fight club_toning) I ask why only my "upper" abs are visible and defined..and everyone keeps sayin : "its all about fat,not crunches and stuff.." ..but...I dunno..either the little fat I have is all concentrated in my lower abdom or I dont have any "lower abs" (I know that the distinction between low and upper abs doesn t really exist). Actually I ve always been practicing sports and also crunches...so somewhere I should have abs...crap!

so...Do u have any possible explanation to this?
thanks

oh and by the way... i'm quite sure your slim 'feeling' is a false perception because it usually takes several months of training before you start to see any results. I mean, you've exercised for 2 weeks right? and twice a week makes 4 times in total. I find it impossible to find any theoretical results after such a short period of time...
