Only 60 more to go...but I'm 48 and...

It's not getting any easier at all to lose weight. I lost the first 20 between September and January. I have maintained my weight loss by keeping my calorie intake between 1300-1600 since January. I am in the habit of writing down my calories so that's a plus.

It absolutely amazes me that I have not lost any more...not an ounce since January...I am 48 like I mentioned, and I am not active enough and I don't drink enough water. That's what I hope to gain from this forum...motivation by your success to get moving and to ratchet my efforts up a notch.

I don't like to exercise, yet I understand that it is necessary. I am not a water drinker and I know that is also necessary.

I am hopeful to hear from other women who are in their late forties who have put themselves on the line and gotten the weight off. I am short and it has collected in the middle...we all know that's not healthy. I live alone and there is no excuse for me not to make the changes necessary...now if I can just tunnel out of the bad habits of sedentary behavior I am in...

Looking forward to reading about others....

Glad to meet you. I am to over 40. Im 45 (will be 46 in August, so I just say Im 46 for pete sakes, lol)

When I began I was 25lbs overweight, droopy, and very out of shape. I was a police officer for 12 years, but I never once lifted a weight nor went on a diet. Got lower back pain, that was bringing me to my knees when I first got out of bed, and it was THIS very thing, where I said enough was enough.

I set out to educate myself on the requirements for weight loss. I keep a diary journal (write down EVERYTHING that goes in my mouth), I have a weight training journal (and Cardio) to track progress, I have a calender per month where I plug in the amount of calories per day (so I can look back and evaluate) in the event something undesirable or desirable occurs). I have set CAP limits (or MT if you will), and back off 300 to 500 c to create the deficit.

And as of May 03, 2007 (see pic below), that is me after a year and about 4 months. I DELIBERATELY took it slow and it took ALOT OF FRICKEN PATIENCE, and this is key: PATIENCE and consistency, and adjustments.

I can relate to you, because we have something in common. I first had to accept the biological clock and its drawbacks.

First, I believe from what I read, that being 44 at the time, I WAS NOT going to grow muscle PRIMELY as would another half my age, and have to accept that.

Second, as we get older, the metabolism slows NATUARLLY (from what I read), and we have to accept that (what choice to we have, fret over what YOU can control).

Third, I set realistic goals, each month, and tracked progress each week, with 6 week total reviews.

Fourth, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY and closely monitor yourself-within reason.

Fifth, SET YOU MIND RIGHT. Its TOUGH being on a caloric deficit, have something IN PLACE TO COUNTER ALL NEGATIVE ASPECTS YOU ENCOUNTER THAT TRIGGER A NEGATIVE RESPONSE----espeically toward food. Remember this: THe few moments (if you know your screwing up) of enjoyment (on that tall bowl of ice cream) is the same way one can FEEl ALL TheTIME when you reach your goals and look great,,,,,,,,,,,no few seconds on lips replaces that feeling, bro.

Can you provide info on your diet and how you figure your MT. On the low end of your caloric, I believe its too low. But I need to know more.

I didnt realize you were a female, LOL. Not that it matters, but caloric requirements are differnent, as in general woman need less calories than men on average. ANy hoot, maybe another woman can help ya too. GOOD LUCK!

**I didnt realize you were a female,**

Darn it, Chillen, you had me until you said that...no, j/k...I can't use the female thing as an excuse.

I read what you said back to me and I know the secret of your success...which is also one that I believe works and which is exactly why I am here.

You have submerged yourself in the solution...and that's what I am doing here. I have already had some success by thinking it, living it and breathing it in my own little world, but the wonderful thing about the internet is that you can find "your kind" on an internet forum.

Your input is a tremendous boon to this forum. As a newcomer here I have already read a few of your posts and I realize that you have committed mind, body and spirit to being healthy and fit. Your posts are not only an inspiration to me, et al, but to yourself. I am a regular poster on a totally different kind of forum and when I post to encourage others I walk away feeling good about my goals along those lines...so that's why I know this internet thing works and why I came along here.

What we think about is what we become...and that's how I have achieved the success of 20 pounds which I have, but I can no longer rely on just talking to myself, I have got to get out there and let others such as yourself be an inspiration to me, offer my own inspiration and get into the thinking game at a higher level.

It's not easy to change one's own habits. Even just logging in here and reading posts will have to become a habit to me...however, if I can change a small habit like coming here to read and post then I am flexing that habit changing muscle...which is where it's all at.

Thank you very much for your detailed post...I hope to be like you in the near future. I am going to go back and re-read your post and get into the game of change.

Middle age is a tough time to change, but it can be done...fortunately, at our age we can mitigate the tough part with strength of character.

As I make accomplishments, I'll be sharing to encourage others.

Again, thanks.

Pretty famous quote-

'If you do what you've always done, you get what you have always gotten.'

I am 52 so I know it doesn't get any easier & it sure won't the longer we wait to get those pounds off. We just have to buckle down & make the changes needed.

You know what you have to do!

Thank you for your kinds words.

Im here to help people help themselves. I believe I have a good feel in what it takes to: STAND AND DELIVER. Remember anything worth while in attaining is USUALLY difficult to obtain (weight loss, caloric defcit, etc). USUALLY anything that isnt worth while, is USUALLY easy to obtain (weight gain, on average only thing a healthy person needs to is, WELL EAT, and how hard is that? For healthy persons?). To be successful, one HAS TO ACCEPT the BASE facts MENTALLY, and then have the motivation to EXECUTE. Im saying appropriate motivation can one can over do things (I am one that tends to do this, and have to stop and BREATHE once in a while and keep myself in check, but I do okay) and so WILL YOU..........GO GET IT GIRL!

Alrighty then!

Y'all are great and bring a smile to my face. I just got back from Walmartz (as my old mom calls it) with a MP3 player and I am waiting on my songs to download even as I type.

Putting together my first hour's worth of walking tunes. I got great suggestions from here. I pretty much have the eating under control, now it's just time to "work it."

Adapt and overcome this is what its about.

In my opinion: We have to be AWARE of our weaknesses (mentally, physically), and have the consciously aided intellect to overcome them to succeed.

In most cases, its THIS VERY THING that fails alot of people.

Never give up on yourself, remember this: Persons that have been successful, have fallen on the face several times, the difference however, is THEY GET THE HELL UP SEVERAL TIMES, and TRY AGAIN..............and this is the difference between being successful and failing.

I firmly believe that one key to success, is constructively handling the mental negatives we all seem to share, and handling the everyday living negatives that come about, having a key constructive complaintency system in place assists with this, and will tend to ADD in motivation.

hi willa and well done on losing the 20lbs so far. i dont know how tall you are, but judging from your goals/bmi i would say you are roughly the same height as me - 5` 1". i am also in my 40`s and not so good with the water and excercise (but trying). i think determination and motivation are a massive part of achieving our goals. i am no expert but you may not be eating enough. try asking in the harsh truth, where someone could help you work this out more "scientifically". cheers, slim

Thanks for your input, Slimby43. I am still trying to figure out how to navigate the forum and going through the different areas. To the new eye, it's a little busy and complicated but it will be easier to get through soon.

I will definitely check out the area you mentioned. I am 5'1. You're right!

Already, I feel a good bit of motivation simply by deciding to take the June challenge!
