Online Diary

I'm on a herbalife programme, and I drink 2 shakes as replacement for my breakfst and dinner. I eat a regular meal at lunch. My regular meal is usually salad or crackers or tuna.

I started going for a walk twice a day an hour each yesterday.. coz I'm scared of my weight loss to plateau.

When I started the diet which was a week ago I was.. (feb 15)

Weight - 162 lbs
Bust - 99 cms
Waist - 87 cms
Hips - 101 cms

22 February 2005 (one week)

Weight - 150 lbs
Bust - 96 cms
Waist - 82 cms
Hips - 97 1/2 cms

total weight lost: 12 LBS (WooHOOO)
centimetres lost: 12 1/2 cms

Yay! Will update on thursday!

Make sure your getting enough calories, those meal replacement programs are notorious for being low on calories.

Congratulations !

First off, I am no expert. I've been reading a few things on the internet, so I am not sure how true the following is.

I would make sure those shakes have 30g of protein per serving. I've heard that up to 25% of weight loss (when doing just aerobic and dieting) is muscle. You may want to think about doing some weight training as well as each 1lb of muscle burns 300 or so calories per day. In other words, two more pounds of muscle means you can eat 600 calories per day. However, if you lose 12lbs, say 8 after water, that could translate into 2lbs of muscle loss or 600 calories less/per day that your body needs.

Rather extreme measurements, I know, as there are A LOT of different variables involved in weight loss. Just thought I would share what I know, and if anyone has heard anything different, please correct me.

Hi thanks for the reply guys, I do put protein powder in my shakes because of what I read here in the forum! I just started putting protein powder today :)

Thanks a lot! What exercise do you suggest though?

Entry for today

I ate:
Breakfast: Herbalife shake with protein powder
Lunch: (i was naughty eeck) a handful of popcorn, boiled sausage, egg, and two tbsp of cooked rice
Dinner: none

I went for a 1 hr walk, and I'm going to walk again tonight for an hour.

Does it sound bad? Please let me know.. I'm really scared of gaining the weight back! And I wanna lose as much weight as possible! Thanks!

Yes, to be honest it sounds very bad to me. After 3 hours of not eating your metabolism starts to go down. You are not eating enough calories at all. With eating a calorie intake as low as you are your body will begin to think that it is starving to death and it will store all your fat, not burn it off.
Sorry to be blunt, but I don't think that the way you are eating is good for fat loss, or even for your health! For good fat loss and health you need 6 small meals a day, all balanced with a carb, a fat and protein. That will rev up your metabolism and also keep you healthy and strong.

I dont mean to ruin your happy moment of losing weight but from all i learned my teacher had told me its very unhealthy to lose more than 1-2 pounds per week. When you lose more than that in a week your losing Bone, Water, and Muscle.

In that case, Manderus- drink tons of water, drink lots of milk/dairy/calcium type products, and have protien and weight train. The muscle will burn the fat, the protien will keep your muscles healthy, the calcium will keep your bones strong, and a lot of water will keep you hydrated. The first 10-20 pounds is water, anyways, so as long as you keep hydrated, you should be fine (then again, I'm far from an expert, so correct me if I'm wrong)

Thanks so much! So should I do it like this..

Breakfast: herbalife shake with protein powder
in between snack: a cracker
Lunch: tuna salad
afternoon snack: a cracker
dinner: herbalife shake with protein powder

.. does that sound better? And also, i want to ask whether brisk walking for an hour is enough.. or jogging for 30 minutes?

I drink a lot of water too! Thanks please help me! I dont mind constructive criticism!

Are you sure its all water? I was under the impression that its fat mixed with water. After ive lost 10 and a half pounds it definatly wasn't all water sense my face is skinner along with my arms and legs.

Hmmm, maybe it isn't...some people say it's the first ten pounds, others the first 20 (which makes no sense...) but maybe it is mixed with fat...that def. makes some sense.

Also, If you read around the forum mandurus, aevans410 has stated before that within the first month its normal to lose around 5 pounds a week because its fat mixed with water weight but after the first month it is unhealthy. But trust me dont listen to what everyone tells you about weight loss, Alot of people will try to tell you that what your doing is wrong because there is TONS of diffrent opinions on diet'ing. But this method DOES work and is pretty much the best way to do it.

Hmmm, true. I think last week, when I lost those first 5 pounds, I'm noticing that my face looks a tad thinner, so, I'm guessing you're right :) Then again, different people have different body types, so they may loose just water before they start loosing the fat...or may start burning a lot of fat without the first few pounds of water. Some people also loose faster than others, and vice versa.

Thats the way it was with me, First 5 pounds i noticed it in my face and then after that i started notice'ing it in my arms and legs. It just feels so great to lose the weight though really makes you feel good about yourself.

I'm still 150 lbs.. not losing weight anymore :( I better add more exercise. I'm gonna add an hour workout of taebo everyday. Hope that'll help me.

Woah Joanne, relax, take a deep breath ---- I'll wait----- ok

before you go upping your exercise routine, give it a few more days. I lose an entire lb in 3-4 days and I outweigh you by about 100 lbs. Don't listen to your scale either. Theres this little guy in there who works for all the soft drink companies and pizza parlors. He lies to you! Trying to get you off of your program (hehe ok now I'm just being silly :p). The thing the scale DOESN'T tell you is what the weight you have on your frame is. It can't determine whats fat, whats muscle, whats bone. Your weight can also fluctuate up to 6 lbs daily just by retaining water.

Hey thanks a lot aevans.. :) Thanks! I feel great now.. I guess I'll wait some more days and just continue my diet!

you're really helpful.. :)

rereading this thread, something struck me as odd, it may explain your lack of weight loss also.

We don't have your age, I used 30 for an age and 5'5 in for a height.

For regular healthy weight loss, I come up with you needing to eat at least 1500 calories a day. I have a funny feeling your not hitting that and may have went into starvation mode. I think you need to eat more. Im not sure how many calories a shake has, but I think you may be selling yourself short on calories

1 bowl of corn flakes with 2 percent milk - 250 calories
1 subway club 6 inch sandwich no cheese or mayo - 350 calories
4 oz chicken, corn, medium baked potato, small salad with fat free italian dressing 700 calories
that leaves 200 calories for snacks, and you will lose a 1lb of fat a week

How much fat is a lb of fat? Its the size of a softball!

Thats an example of what a healthy eating day would look like. Im not saying you HAVE to eat that, but it just gives you an idea.
