Online Calorie tracking

Can anyone suggest an online calorie tracking site, or maybe a good book that gives the nutritional information/values for many different foods?

Sites - or

There are a ton of sites, but these are two that I've used.

Books -

Oh yea, and then there is the national database found here:

if you google "food diary" you'll find links to 100s of various sites - most of them reference the USDA site... What you want is an interface that you're comfortable with and will allow you to enter custom foods in a way that's easy for you.

There are hundreds of them - find one that works for you

Steve and Mal, thanks. Fitday looks easy enough. Sometimes with so much information available at your finger tips it's easier to have a recommendation from someone rather than try to wade through the ocean of information! Plus, anything being used by people getting results is what I want to emulate. I know that the tools that work for individuals are the tools they should use, but when starting from ground zero, it's good to have someone to help you in the right direction instead of wandering around aimlessly.

Getting results isn't based on the site but what you're choosing to do wit the site.

you still have to do all the accurate recording -the site won't do that for you...

You still need to measure and weigh everything you're putting in your mouth..

I've been using sparkpeople for the past 2 years - most 'experty' types hate that site - me i use it because I'm lazy and have entirely too much custom food entered to go elsewhere --it's not sparkpeople that made me lose 200 lbs -it's me that did.. SP is just a tool - Fitday is just a tool...

I get what you are saying... use the tools to perform the work! Each person should find the right tools for themselves. Some carpenters prefer the B.F.H., others prefer the 9oz. finishing hammer...I guess I'm looking for conveinence in tracking for something I plan to do the rest of my life, and maybe I need to find what "convienent" is to me?? Did I take away from your reply what you had intended?

I use my shoe or a meat malletas a hammer so - that was greek to me...

but the rest of it is true..

you gotta find what works for you..

I use FitDay and I really like it. Their food library isn't all that great, but it's very easy to enter custom foods. Most of what I enter on there is custom.

The "B.F.H.", is what some people in the trades refer to as the BIG F@#king HAMMER. Sorry, I'm in the construction field so some of my analogies are suspect!!
:smash: See, Mr. smiley prefers the B.F.H.

Again, thanks for the direction.

I tend to use calorie-count, but if that doesn't have what I need, I simply go to google and type in "calories in....." And it'll show results from many different sources. You can also double check and see if the sites are consistent on what they say about that particular item.
