One month: I look exactly the same, LOL

One month. I'm actually down 4 or 5 lbs, and my cardiovascular health is improving (I run 5 miles 3/4 times a week). I just had elbow surgery recently and am heading back to work--hopefully some strength training will get me in better shape, especially upper body/core strength.

It's not so much the number on the scale that's important, as I'm at a healthy BMI, just not in shape. I weighed 140lbs. for years, recently was up to 160lbs, now I'm around 155-156. It'd be nice to be a fit 140 again, but I'll take what I can get and focus on fitness. Slow and steady wins the race.

I'll keep up with the monthly photos.

I've been at it for a monthish now too. And I haven't changed much in looks either.

My pants still feel the same...and my weight has only dropped three pounds.

But I'm not looking for something quick. I want it to be something I can live with. I feel better bout myself for making better choices and pushing myself to work a little harder each time at the gym.

You running 5 miles 3-4 times a week is fantastic! Like you said...slow and steady wins the race.

Just keep up the good work! You're doing great!

^Thanks! Exercise really improves my mood immediately, if not my body. I'm usually really thin-skinned and tetchy, but with the running I find I'm much less irritable, take things as they come. I'm hoping not to get too focused on the "goal"--I know that drives many people to stay on course--but I'm too hyper and perfectionist when I say, "I must weigh x by y." I'm more likely to get frustrated and quit when I'm in too much of a hurry to get somewhere. I can, however, up my running mileage by 10% every week, though, pretty painlessly. Whatever method works for you.

My eldest sister went from 400lbs. to 160lbs in about 2 years--I also have many obese close family members who didn't get that way overnight, either--so I figured I'd best nip things in the bud and get a lifetime's eating and exercise daily habits now rather than later. It's just hard undoing years of reinforcement--I used to able to eat what I please, not exercise, and not gain--but that kind of metabolism doesn't last. I'm guessing if I keep the pace moderate and the goal modest, all the changes are likely to stick.

"I'm guessing if I keep the pace moderate and the goal modest, all the changes are likely to stick."

And thats hitting the nail on the head.

"Making it stick."

No more yo-yo diets. No more excuses.

Making it work for good. Yup..thats the ticket.

(I gotta add.....all my life I wanted to play a musical instrument, and I spent hours watching bands and musicians while mesmerized at their ability to play.
Now I find people like yourself who can run or execise as diligently as you do just as fascinating.
I never did learn to play a musical instrument...but I am getting into working out to the point where I like going and am amazed at the progression thats happened so far in just a little time!)

Keep up the good work!
