New member
Hi, i am on a mission to lose weight,

i am 15 and 3/4 years old, and am currently 5ft 10 at 98kg. my bmi is about 31 which is not to good.

i have just joining up at a gym on the 2nd of january, but not yet been able to use it due to work, but tommorow will be the first and definatly not the last.;)

well i want to get around to about 78kg which is approxamitely 20kg and as i am still growing it will be a good time to help stretch out the fat. if i reach my goal of about then i want to maybe start building some muscle.

hope to continue and talk about my upcoming progress. and give you feedback as it comes along also if in need of help, someone may be able to answer my questions.

thanks in advance
michael

Hi! I'm new too! If you're going to do weight training you've picked an excellent time to do it! As you're still growing and are around puberty time, you'll be full of growth hormone and testosterone that'll mean you'll build muscle quite easily and will form a base that'll keep for life!

yer that is my plan, but first i want to lose weight, and today i activated my membership at the gym and did a 1 1/2 hr workout, i was buggered lol:p. doin the same thing tomorow morning and hopefully as many as i can. i want to make it a daily part of my life (goin to gym)

also bought some new cross-trainers today, as the shoes i have are my old basketball ones which now are to small and rubbing giving me blisters.

so i keep everyone updated and i am goin to weigh myself once a week, to hopefully see my weight change, hopefully down kg's  .

hey 1man :) welcome and good luck. congrats for the gym. 1 and 1/2...that's really great. i found this diary thing really helpful. its great to have a place where u know you'll find all the support you need.

do you, apart from exercising have nutrition plan? even though i just started and its my day 3 i lowered my food intake on about 1200-1500 calories per day. and i eat 3-4 times a day.

Lena:D

Lena has a really good point, I made the mistake of starting to eat poorly when I was working out, and while I built a lot of muscle, it didn't help my wieght and actually turned into a long term increase in my poundage!
If you haven't set yourself a plan for food, then you are still in great shape"Track what you eat in a normal day right now; do it for several days, and see what you come up with. Get weights and nutritional information on everything that is prepackaged, and write it down where nobody else will get to read it. I hope you are in better shape than I was when I started doing that sort of thing many years ago; I would cheat and not write things in, just on the off chance that someone else MIGHT read it!

Keep doing your mission, no matter what else you DON'T do! :D

yer lol i was pretty much spent after the 1 1/2 hour, but at the same time i was watching the ashes cricket lol.

as for a nutrition plan, i have not done that yet but i am starting to watch what i eat, cutting right back on sugars, cos i liked to eat a bit of chocolate lol. and cut back on the carbo's eg bread pasta etc. im drinking alot more water, and eatin more fruit.

And Qjay, do u mean right down how many calories in it or what?, then do u add it up each day to see how many calories your intake is.

Yeah, if you pay attention to the nutritional information in what you eat: Carbs, fat, protein, calories, etc, you'll quickly learn about the difference between good and bad foods, and they are NOT always what you think they are.
Find out how much of a food is in a serving, and whether it is an 8 oz serving or a 12 oz serving, and many of the other things food manufacturers do to trick us into buying their products. I am not trying to tell you to become a hardcore calorie counter, but you DO need to educate yourself if you want to lose weight and keep it off. Sadly, the only way to learn is to study what you are doing, as a habit.
The food log is just a simple way to get you in the habit of doing that.

yer cheers for that,

well second day in a row, did exercise at the gym. did 30mins on the treadmill which was about 3.3km and was 200 calories (buggered after that lol), then 10mins on the rowing machine, and 5min cool down on the exercisee bike.

so in total 45min then spent about 15mins in the gym pool.

On another note, what is some thing you can eat, that tastes good, but still is healthy. i had some yoghurt and watermelon after my workout but now im still hungry lol. Any ideas?

well you can't really go wrong with anything if you keep track of your portions. i eat practically everything but be careful with portions.
. for example i always eat cereal in the morning with yogurt. then after some 3 or 4 hours i either have low fat yogurt or a banana or something like that. for lunch i try to eat diverse food. for example two days ago i had brown rice risotto with veal meat (i really try to use meat without much fat).
yesterday i had chiken breasts with cooked and stirfried veggies. and for dinner i had mixed salad with one hard boiled egg and and horseradish dressing (low fat yogurt, low fat cottage cheese(1tb spoon), 1 tb spoon of finely chopped onions, 1/2 tea spoon of horseradish sauce (spicy but not to bring tears to your eyes lol) and all sorts of seasoning herbs).

look at me like some cook book lol. anyway i think you get the picture. if you want to know how many calories you should take daily go to or i'm sure you'll find it very helpful.

Have a great day,

Lena :D

Foods that taste good and are healthy?
I like: Jerky, nuts, fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, cheese, peanut butter, and Salmon Salad Sandwiches :D

It all depends on what you are looking to do, mate; try finding some fresh veggies you like and are willing to prepare. Celery and carrot sticks aren't bad, neither is salad if you avoid overdressing it. I love broccoli, pea pods, cauliflower, and other stuff like that. I'm not real big on fruit, to be honest, but it's still tasty and good for you (I have to eat it in moderation, or else I get sock of it), and jerky and pepperoni sticks (I nuke the pepperoni sticks to melt a lot of the fat out of them, about 20 seconds at a time on a paper plate or paper towel until they are nice and hot, AND they taste really good that way, pat the grease off of them), and I love eating roasted almonds and hazelnuts.
Also, pumpkin or sunflower seeds are good snacks, and you can usually get them from a snack vending machine. If you're just snacking and trying to beat the munchies, the first thing I have to do is TURN OFF THE TV! I usually get it worst from TV shows. the second thing I try to do is have a stick or two of gum, instead of real food, then if all that fails, I must really be hungry, so I have a glass of water, then a snack.

Oh, final note: There's usually nothing wrong with having more Yogurt and Watermelon :p They're pretty much good for you; just try to keep track of the amount of the foods that you are eating, and how much fat/carb/calories you are putting into yourself.
