One change a day

Hey everyone!

Through all of my experiences and conversations with others en route to the land of the thin, I have found that feeling overwhelmed about diet, fitness and all of the other factors that are encompassed in this realm is inevitable. There seems to come a point where many people are overloaded with information and attempt to alter and transform their fitness routine and diet all at once.

However, this often lands us in diet sabotage, as the measuring portions, counting calories and maintaining your ideal heart rate become simply exhaustive. So, I thought I would introduce what a friend of mine coined as 'one change a day.' It's not a novel or inventive philosophy by any means, but it is something that is so easy to follow, especially when you fall off the bandwagon and are facing extreme difficulty getting back on.

Furthermore, rather than trying to "start over" and entirely eradicate your past eating habits or exercise routines, try employing this 'one change a day' concept. Every day enforce one big change into your diet/fitness, whether it be introducing more fruits or vegetables or eliminating some refined sugars. It's like high school, when you learned a new vocabulary word every day by continually rehearsing the word and its meaning, rather than attempting to learn ten words at once and mixing them up.

So, without sounding like a huge cliche or a nerd as I am so often called, I would like to put forth the first change you can make today...

Day 1- Replace any carbonated or sugary drinks with water. This change alone will benefit your skin, energy and definitely your weight loss in the long run.

If I'm coined as a huge, unoriginal dork and no one picks up on this thread, I'm definitely deleting it but I thought it would be a good 'pick me up' for those of us who might be struggling! Take care, Bec

Hi Becka! BTW, thanks for your comment on my other post... I really appreciate your encouragement!

Anyway, I like the "One change a day" concept... I don't find it dorky at all, this weight-loss journey is not an easy one, and we can't expect everything to change at once, just take it day at a time.... :D I replaced soda/diet soda/juices/etc. with just plain water, honestly it wasn't that hard after the first few days... Now when I'm thirsty, I CRAVE cold water... hehe  I'm sure that's why I lost 12 lbs back in Oct., b/c of my diet but mostly I cut out all soda! Trust me, I was an addict. Anyway, GREAT IDEA!! ;)

That is wonderful... and I guess it keeps the motivation, everyday has something new to consider. :) Really nice!
I don't drink those drinks, so I'm waiting for the tip of today :) Please put them also at the first post, to make it easy :)

Yay! I'm so glad at least some people expressed interest in this new philosophy!

Day 2-
Try to get at least 30-35 grams of fiber today- this is not only great for your digestive system but will also aid weight loss- research soluble vs. insoluble fiber for your own knowledge! Good luck!

Apologies for anyone who was disappointed not to have seen a daily change..Slept most of the day- Let today be a 'free' day- I'll write a new change in the morning for tomorrow!

Changes- Day 4

Day 4

Do at least 30 minutes of cariovascular exercise and/or resistance training at least three times this week, starting today.

Jot down the five things you like most about your physical appearance and five things you value about your personality and inner being. Post them somewhere that they are in sight and can serve as a constant reminder of how wonderful you are.

Post old or present photos of yourself and a photo of either a)you when you were at your ideal size or b)someone who is your ideal size. By ideal size, I do not mean stick-thin, bones sticking out models-- Perhaps someone in your life who has an ideal, curvy HEALTHY shape- It will serve as motivationf or you:)

Change 6
Watch your caloric intake and compare it to your BMR to see if you are within a healthy range to lose/maintain weight.

Take your measurements and set healthy goals for yourself.

*If after this I receive no replies, I'll give up:) My creativity is starting to diminish

No, please don't give up... I always read your...i guess we can call them daily changes...they are a great help for me THANK YOU!

I wish other people would post their ideas too and really get this thread spinning...

Alot of people in my office drink huge amounts of pop...so, how's this for a change:

try to drink 8 glasses of water a day

To add to that they say for every 'non-water' [i.e. coffee/tea/soda/juice] beverage you consume, drink 2 additional glasses of water for hydration!

Change 7

No eating after 7:30p.m. from this point forwad. If you are famished and you really can't stand it, try a 10 calorie sugar-free jello or ice pop. You'll be amazed by what the scale reads from doing this for a week:)

Skipped a few days there.. Anyhow. Gradually diminish or eliminate your caffeine intake. Start with decaf for a few weeks and then try to eradicate coffee and soda entirely!

I've been wanting to do something like that, but something every week rather than every day.

My change for this week: walk home from work in the afternoons like I did today, regardless of whether I work out or not.

Most tend to 'abandon' their healthy eating/fitness reigmens on the weekends.

Steer cleer of weekend bingeing by following these rules of thumb:
1. Bring bottled water with you everywere.
2. Put an apple or other healthy snack in your purse/car/whatever you are traveling by so when the urge to eat arrives you have something healthy to snack on and won't as be tempted to indulge.
3. If you really want to 'treat' yourself, try a SMALL portion to see if it satisfies your craving.
4. Weigh the pros and cons of eating that piece of cake- do you really want it or are you just eating out of bad old habits?

Good luck!

3. If you really want to 'treat' yourself, try a SMALL portion to see if it satisfies your craving.

I can't even begin to stress this enough! Like last night I made enchiladas & normally I would have just plopped 2 down on my plate, but I just put one & decided I would come back for the second one.... I never did. I wasn't hungry after the first. I would have eaten the second if it had been there, but I decided not to.

Sometimes a little is just enough. Bigger isn't always better, unless that is what you are trying to become! :)
