oh noes... neck injury?

Hello!
I've just returned from a pretty short training session... it came to an early end when I was lifting the barbell like an inch from the ground. Suddenly I felt a sore muscle being straigned (or so) and had to drop it immediately. I've felt that something is wrong the whole day, but I thought that it is because I had been sitting around so much the day before playing a video game (on a very bad chair that made me bend my back ridiculously).
It's not severe pain.. but I can clearly feel that something is wrong. Unfortunately I have no idea where I could have injured myself.. I didn't lift weights since Friday so there's no way that I could have hurt myself during my last weight lifting session. I feel the pain on a muscle just next to the spine between the neck and the back (maybe about the same horizontal level as my shoulders... it's not my delts. it's very near to the spine). Does anyone know if something like this can happen due to a bad sitting position? Or did I practise backflips while sleepwalking...
Hope it's better tomorrow :(

I've had that same thing happen. I picked up a dumbell, not even a really heavy one and the muslce it sounds like you're describing just locked up on my and wouldn't let go. It was excrusiating pain and I went three days not even being able to turn my head. I couldn't go to school or really even get out of bed. After three days of that I went to the doctor and he gave me a muscle relaxer shot right into the neck and that solved it. Wish I would have done that the first day. I'm not sure if your injury is the same thing but if it gets worse or doesn't get better make sure to get it checked out.

hey,
fortunately it doesn't seem to be that bad... I can turn my head and move normally without feeling pain. It's just certain movements, like lifting something, that suddenly makes me "feel" that muscle. It doesn't hurt that much actually, but it just feels so weird because it's like I can feel every motion of it.. every little strain. Just as it was uber sensitive. My dad told me that I might just have caught a cold and he said that I should get used to things like that. I've never had anything like this, however, so I'm a bit nervous about it. But no need to exaggerate things... it can't be too serious because it only bothers me when trying to lift weights and not during everyday activity. Thanks for the advise.. if it gets worse I'll surely get it checked.

A bad chair could do that if it caused your spinal alignment to be out of wack. That into consideration, a small amount of lifting, in even a proper manner, could cause a muscle strain. If you know a good chiropractor, have him check it out. A lot of times a few cracks and small electrical jolts can take care of it in no time.

BE CAREFUL!!!!!

you could permanently paralize yourself that way. I've read articles where people roll around in bed and accidentally fall off their bed and pull or crack their neck and they realize they cant' move. That's how they get paralized.

It's the third day now since I noticed it... I stood away from weights and put on some tiger balm as my dad urged me to do so. It got better and I hardly feel anything (no pain, that is! ;)) anymore. I'll be careful and let it heal off.. when I feel 100% again in a few days I'll give it a try and try to lift little bro from the ground. If I still feel pain I'll get it checked.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help. You're awesome.
