Obliques - help!

I am having some real problems with obliques exercises. When I do side crunches I have real difficulty keeping my feet/legs on the floor and can hardly get my shoulders off the floor.

I train quite a lot but have always had problems balancing when doing crunches/jack knifes and so forth.

Can anyone reccommend a good obliques exercise that I might find easier, or tell me what I'm doing wrong with side crunches?

Thanks

Don't forget to get some stretches and flexibility in there. Sounds like some range of motion would do you good. I find it hard to stay balanced when I do side crunches because I keep falling over, lol.

Have you tried side planks? It's a static exercise, meaning there is no movement involved. You hold a certain position and contract the target muscles for a specified period of time.To do a side plank, start by lying on your right side on the floor, now place your right elbow/forearm on the ground and raise yourself up so that the only parts of your body touching the floor are your right foot/ankle and your right elbow/forearm.Hold this position and tense the right obliques for 30 seconds, switch sides and repeat.
