Oatmeal for breakfast

What are the advantages of eating oatmeal for breakfast? I see a lot of fitness people do it. Oatmeal with 2 egg whites and a glass of orange juice are what I eat. They are high in protein but is there any other reason? I eat low sugar oatmeal by the way so it's healthier.

For a few reasons. Oatmeal is high in fiber. Fiber is good and helps "move things along". It is also a good source of carbs in the morning. You want to try to get a lot of carbs early in the morning to give you energy throughout the day. But its a low GI carb so you dont have a huge insulin spike.

As far as "low-sugar" oatmeal, you really shouldnt be having any instant stuff. Just regular old quaker oats. The instant stuff, with sugar, is crap. Loaded with all kinda of stuff that isnt oatmeal.

old fashioned quaker oats. lower GI than instant oats (especially the packets of maple brown sugar flavor), a little more fiber, and it doesn't cook into paste like instant oatmeal.

2egg whites is a whopping 6g of protein. I have 5 egg whites with 2 yolks, every day. all the fat, an half the protein is in the yolk. 2 yolks a day isn't bad for cholesterol or fat intake.

Here is a link to an article that calls into question the beginnings of the "high fiber" myth. It is long but interesting.

do you eat the eggs raw?

No, always cook your eggs...for 2 reasons.

1. it kills the salmonella that may be present, and would surely make you ill
2. cooked eggs are more bio-available than raw eggs
