Nutrition Question - Gaining Weight but Staying Slim

So I've been weight training for about 3 months now, 4 times a week + cardio.

I'm 6 ft and 165 lbs. I'm looking to gain only about 10 lbs. I haven't put on any weight since I began, but weight has been going on the right places (i.e. my muscles are getting bigger and I'm slimming down around the belt).

However, I'm still looking to bulk up (slightly) because I am so skinny. I know I need to be taking in more calories to do so, but I am mostly worried about putting on weight around the waistline. Especially now that I feel like I am making good progress and it's starting to look how I want.

Does gaining muscle mean sacrificing for the short term in terms of flab around the stomach? My preference is to keep that in order even if it means gaining weight a little slower.

Sorry if this is a total noob question, I didn't find it anywhere else.

You just need to monitor your calorie and macro intake, and watch the scale, mirror, and possible body fat tests.

You can pack on muscle while minimizing fat gain...some are lucky enough they gain no noticable fat on a 'light bulk'.

Most just up the calories 'plenty' and deal with the fat gain by cutting after the bulk.

Alright, thanks.

So pretty much I have to expect some fat gain if I am going to bulk. Can I try to minimize the effects by taking in more calories through protein and less through fats?

I guess I will just go for it - I am going to try and increase my intake. I've tracked the last couple days and I probably do about 2300 calories a day. This website, myfitnesspal, says I should be doing 2900 or so. Sound about right?
