Nutrisystem support and thoughts

Hey,

I've been using Nutrisystem for the last few months and have not really lost weight from it. I have been on and off the diet, which is obviously the reason why I haven't lost weight from using it. Maybe it's just me, but do any of you who use nutrisystem have trouble eating it all day every day?

I'm hopeing that this thread can be useful to those who are curious about joining NUtrisystem. The point is to write my experiences as best as I can, including reviews on the foods and what might be common hardships along the way.

Blueberry Muffin: Breakfast

I had the Blueberry muffin for breakfast. It isn't the worst breakfast they have (wait until I review the eggs...dear god).

The texture of the muffin is best described as if they took a muffin and compressed it, taking away its crumbly softness. The taste isn't too bad. It tastes like a blueberry muffin with a bit too much artificial sweetner.

The package comes with 2 muffins (sized about 2in in diameter and 3/4in in height).

Side note:

Most Nutrisystem foods have a ton of fiber and protein, but almost all foods have a ton of sodium.

The system is meant to followed strictly so that you dont go over your sodium consumption and also, of course, so you dont intake too many calories.

Nutrisystem works by portion control and eating wenever you start feeling hungry during the day. You have 5 nutrisystem food entries to each a day. In between those eating periods you are supposed to have more foods. My daily routine for extra foods are 2 fruits, 2 yogurts, 2 pieces of wheat toast (unbuttered) and 2 salads.

As you can see you are allowed to eat a lot.

The only reason I stay on this program is because I dont have time to cook things for myself. Rather, I never spent the time to cook things for myself.

I'll be posting more foods as I eat them. Todays menu? Cheese Tortellini for lunch followed by a white chocolate cookie for snack.

I had looked at nutrisystem for about 2 minutes then I remembered I hated processed foods and am cheap... so I passed..

What made you pick nutrisystem? it's really just a controlled calorie diet, why not do the same thing with real food that is enjoyable...

Hi mal,

I was desperate. Very desperate. I felt I couldn't control myself at all because I wasn't losing and weight. If you remember, we had a discussion back in June (around then) about colonics. Thats when I started getting desperate. Started trying new things, like colonics (something I regret experiencing), nutritionists and fad diets.

The reason I started nutrisystem was because I looked at their website in a time of need and saw people my weight and heavier who met a goal. Up until this day I still have not reached a goal on mine (the smallest included) and wanted to try this easy fix.

I know it sounds incredibly lazy of me, but I was caught in a time of need and only now do I see that I can be eating much healthier foods. I'm in a better place mentally and now have a stock pile of this nutrisystem food.

I'm going to stop the service, but I feel the need to tell everyone how this system is and what to expect from the foods. The majority of them are gross.

Lets just say, if you enjoy fish gelatin you will enjoy the majority of meat protducts. I dont eat any kind of dish, but all of the sauces on meat products have fish gelatin and oils (omegas). You can't taste it, but the thought it gross. Smells like cat food.

Oh yea, I am not promoting Nutrisystem. Just giving an unbiased report of foods and experience.

Oh and also, when I was eating my own food, I had no idea (still dont really) of how much food to eat.

I could only estimate the calories I was taking in, but with nutrisystem there is a specific amount you eat and you know it.

Everyone has to find their own way...

What happens when you get closer to your goal?

Do you feel you will learn or are learning portion sizes and how to eat for the rest of your life?

Honestly Mal, I do feel like I am learning portion sizes. The thing is, these portions are so small that it will be hard to follow later on. My tortellini for lunch today is 5 half dollar sized tortelini in a chunky tomatoe sauce (tastes like chef boyardee).

It will be a challenge no matter what. I have to work at it, change my mind set.

Also...I have to see if i can get a refund for this new box of nutrisystem. i dont want to do it anymore. lol

I will be eating my own foods soon enough, so by the time i reach my goal I wont be dependent on crappy food.

I tried nutrisystem back in 2006 for about 3 months. I lost about 40 lbs in a period of 5 months, but at the end i just could not take anymore of the awful taste. After that i have tried to get back on nutrisystem but just cant get myself to eat it again.

I just quit it today.

The thing that grossed me out wasn't the taste of the food. It was the ingredients.

Every meat product, or most lunch and dinner products that are not bars, contain ingredients that literally made me sick just thinking about them.

Those ingredients were fish oils and fish gelatin. Dear lord... fish gelatin?

I remember the first time that I ate the fettucini alfredo. I was expecting a rich cream sauce. Instead I got a semi translucent greyish slick textured sauce. After eating it a couple of times, i started to wonder what this sauce could be.

Fish Gelatin...

I gagged.

Ever since, its been harder and harder to attempt to eat anything from nutrisystem.

ive never been able to follow it fully; I havent reached that level of dicipline, so i never really lost weight on it. Congratulations HJD for losing the weight.

Luckily they are nice enough to accept returns, so I will be returning 1.5 months of food to them for a full refund.

To sum up, the food didnt taste too bad (DEFIANTLY not good by any means) but the ingredients were not something i could handle.

Nutrisystem is a good diet, but if you consider what you are eating its not good. I have been replicating nutrisystem by eating smaller portions and eating multiple times a day. This has really helped me keep the weight away. Overall its just about a lifestyle change that you can live with. I would just try to note the total calories you eat each day. The only thing nutrisystem has thought me is portion control.

HJD,

Thats exactly what its done for me, except I still struggle with dinner and weekends. I dont have the will-power yet to control all of my meals all of the time. I'm close but not there yet.

How loing have you been using the portion control method and what results has it yielded?

I have been using portion control for about 2 years now. It has really helped me just keep the weight off. However i have been real inconsistent from time to time, so my weight fluctuates alot. But now i am back to following the portion control method with regular exercise. On weekend i try to stay real busy so i dont think about food, and eating protein and drinking lots of water makes me feel satisfied.
