Not Sore??

How come after I have a session with my PT and we do certain machines, I don't feel sore in the areas that I should be? I never feel sore on my chest or my back. It's so weird

I kinda like a little bit of soreness. Lets you know you've really worked yourself.

Althout apparently its not a sign of a good workout so I wouldn't let it bother you.

DOMS/soreness is not indicative of a good or stimulating workout but is a very good indicator of one's conditioning level not being matched to the load applied. This is why low volume, low frequency workouts get you sore consistently - training a bodypart 1x per week doesn't really allow one to get conditioned. If you are training with more frequency (and possibly more volume now) once you get used to it (generally a week or so providing you didn't overwhelm yourself with the increase) DOMS doesn't really show up on a consistent basis.

Thanks for clarifying this "abear" (I'm still partial to your old screen name, Massive Member!).

Also, if the original poster is still reading this thread, if your trainer simply has you following the machines, then he/she is nothing more than a "clipboard cowboy" and has no business charging you. Ditch them and get a real trainer.

;)

clipboard cowboy, i like that one

dan john says to avoid the trainers who wear golf shorts with their name on it :D

Heh just curious, what's wrong with my PT telling me to do machines? Don't they work? We also did some freeweights yesterday

Free weights are like a machine totally customized to your own body structure - on top of that the body is best stimulated the way it is meant to work, like a system. The best exercises (dead, squat, bench, row, overhead), heavily load the entire system through a fundamental range of motion and recruit multiple joints and muscle groups.

Okay thanks. Cause my first ever session I was sore to the max but it's been like 3 months from then and I'm not sore anymore at ALL

thats quite alright. as long as your performance and your body composition are both improving, you are moving forward :)

I dont know if its normal, but I no longer get sore either. Even if I do a particularly intense workout on a muscle it feels fine the next day. So if thats not supposed to happen, dont feel too bad, Im right there with you.

Free weights are better if for no other reason than the body having to use the stabalizing muscles to keep things in place, which machines will completely avoid because there is no need to stabalize.

Okay good. Right now my measurements are not eaven. I think they are:

34:29:37

And my bodyfat is in the 19-21% range.

Also my arms are 10.5 to 11 inches. Is that good or bad

i would say thats pretty good. everyone is different so don't worry as long as you feel that the measurements are good then they are. we are all built diefferent so never go by what someone elses measurements are..

I wouldnt worry about what measurement are good/bad. Do you feel good? Do you have the look you are trying to attain or if not there yet, are you making progress? If so, your on the right track.

Body composition varies from person to person, so measurements are not a very good way to determine progress. That is, unless you are using your original measurements as a method of determining progress, in which case measurements are OK.

My ideal measurements would be :
34:24:34 but I don't see that happening. I don't have a small waist and I don't think I ever will
