Not overweight, but not in shape

Hi there, I'm a new user here, but I have a couple questions.

I was wondering how I would go about losing weight and getting in shape, but not building muscle.

My body type and genes are pretty much hardwired so that if I start working out (lifting weights) and eating right I'll most likely put on muscle mass.
I know it's a bit unusual, I mean, most guys would be happy to put on more muscle, but I don't want to be big, I want to be tiny.

Is there any way I can eat well, and say, like... Run or do some kind of cardio so that I'll get "cut" and trim without putting on muscle mass?

What types of things should I eat?

Oh, and by the way, I'm 5'7" and my weight is about 162. And I'm eighteen.

That's ok, we don't mind if you post here. :)

Eating a calorie deficit (eating fewer calories than you burn off each day) will leave you less likely to gain muscle mass. The body needs to use the food you fuel it with to build muscle.

Find some cardio activities that you enjoy and focus on them. Maybe running, biking, rollerblading, swimming, or whatever you like. Weight training is still a good idea, but it need not be your focus if you don't want it to be. You could do 2 full body workouts a week in a ciruit training style. Just some suggestions. :)
