Not feeling the burn...

So I don't know what wrong with me but I really want that after workout ache.. You know that feeling in your muscles that makes you feel like you've done something. I don't really get that. I tried increasing the weight I use but still nothing I always get to the point where I just can't lift anymore but never get the ache even the next day I still feel great. Do I just need to push myself harder or am I doing something very wrong. Please help....

I never get the burn after lifting weights. I think it's only after cardio excercise you get that kinda burn. The only kinda ache i've had after lifting weights was the kind that hurt like hell, lasted 4 days, and stopped my from standing up straight :( i'm pretty sure you don't mean that kinda ache.

Why would you want to feel uncomfortable? If you can lift and make gains with no aches what are you complaining about?

I don't feel like I'm making any gains tho. I don't feel anything but tired after cardio...I just want to feel like I'm getting somewhere. I want to be ableto feel that my body pushing itself. I don't expect to see results soon but I want to feel like I'm getting somewhere....Does that make any sense to anyone?

Studies have shown that eccentric contractions (the lowering of the weights) causes muscle soreness.

Try lowering the weights slowly with control.

Use what you see in the mirror as your progress guage, not how sore you are or aren't. Cannavaro has a point there, take your time and really squeeze that muscle.

That burn you are referring to is called DOMS. It stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.

Usually people experience that burn when they are new to working out or when they switch their training program. As someone else mentioned, try lifting slower if you really really need that burning sensation.

BUT- don't let that burn be your benchmark for success. As an ex-athlete, I thought the burn-less feeling meant I didn't work out enough. I was wrong.

DOMS is not pain. If you are experiencing "Ouch, this really friggin' hurts" you should see a doctor or something. DOMS is that achey "Oi, what did I do yesterday?" feeling. Just to clarify.

sounds like you've reached a plateau, what about trying a different exercise. Have you tried rock climbing? Or sets of sprinting up stadium stairs. Or qtr mile intervals at the track. What about running on the beach or beach volleyball. Try switching things up and not doing your same routine for a week and then returning to your last routine. That should give you a nice ache. Its wortha try dont you think? ;)
