No pain no gain?

I'm working on decreasing my body fat % by gaining muscle while maintaing weight. I work out at home because I can't get to a gym for a lot of reasons, the kids being #1. Here's my question. I work out 3 times a week with weights and resistance, four times a week with cardio. I will do the resistance work out untill my body is shaking, doing reps to failure. But, I'm not getting sore the next day. Not really anyway. A little tender in some places, but not really sore. If I try a new exercise I can feel it pretty good, but the next time I do it, no more soreness. Does this mean I'm not working hard enough, I need to find a creative way to add weight, I need to change up my routine every time I do it (right now I do something different every couple of weeks)? Or is it no big deal and just keep doing what I'm doing? I'm so confused because I always believed the no pain no gain thing.

The "No Pain, No Gain" thing is wrong. Some people do not get sore... ever. Others are more sore than most. It depends on you. However when you start a new exercise routine you should be a little something because you should be trying new exercises - which use new muscle fibers.

But most people will adapt and the soreness will go away or stop until they change their routine again.

So long as you go to fatigue with perfect form... you are okay.

I will give you example with myself. I get sore very quickly in my calves, I workout them very easily. But for example I can do many reps for abs and I feel ok next day.

This Saturday I changed my workout for legs and today I really fell sore, but I know this is only the first time and I am on the right trac.

When you change exercise it has to be some sore, but every person is different.

Workout regularly and enjoy life :)
