No jumping ability

I've been playing basketball now for about 5 years and just haven't been able to develop any jumping ability. I've tried calf raises, lunges, and I just haven't been able to increase my vertical. I guess I would appreciate any kind of input to get my legs into pogo stick mode so that I can grab some of those tough rebounds and maybe dunk one day. Any suggestions?

jump roap

jumping roap, walking distances on ur toes, just jumping for a long time, squats and dead lifts, leap frogs. also, one of the most crucial activities is stretching.

im starting martial arts soon so i too wanted to increase my vert jump. i had a solid routine but stopped doing it for two weeks, however i stretched for a half hour every night. at the end of the two weeks i wanted to see how much of my vert jump i had lost, i gained over 4 inches, now maybe this is a fluke or it was just me that this has happened to. but i seriosuly recommend u try a solid stretching routine that includes strething ur hammies, akilies and planta facia for a good amoutn of time.

best thing for that is just jumping over and over again. Maybe get some ankle weights idk.

By the way how tall are you and what are you reaching, cause i got the same problem. But im white so it's ok j/k.

im 5"10 and i can only touch maybe 9"9

Unfortunately good jumpers are born, not made. If you don't have a high ratio of fast twitch fibers, you'll never be a good jumper. You could take someone with a low percentage of fast twitch fibers, and start from birth. Give them the best coaches and trainers. Feed them all the best food. Have them exercise 5 hours a day. You might make them into a slightly above average jumper. You could take another person, like Javier Sotomayor (who high jumps almost 8 Feet) at birth, feed him potato chips and beer, have him sit on the couch watching Oprah until he's 35 yrs old, and he'd probably out jump the first guy. With a couple of months training, he'd probably be high jumping over 6 feet, which is way above average. That's just the way it is.

Having said that, the way a poor jumper can progress to a fair or average jumper is to do a lot of plyometrics.

Hate to rain on your parade, but don't want to give you false hopes. Good luck with it.
