No change :(

Hi everyone!

I have been on a healthy eating and exercise plan for just under 3 months. I am 27 years old, 5"9 and weigh 148lbs. I haven't got a huge amount of weight to lose (probably 8-10llbs max) and am looking to tone up.

I have completely cut out all junk food, upped my veg and fruit intake and consume an average of 1750 calories a day. I have increased my water intake to a minimum of 8 pints a day. I also exercise 5 times a week, a mix of cardio, stretches and weights.

So, why after nearly 3 months have I not lost any weight? I haven't even shifted 1lb. I thought that maybe I was gaining muscle mass and that perhaps I had lost inches - but no, not a measly inch off anywhere - my clothes still fit the same as they did in April.

What am I doing wrong? I can assure everyone I am not cheating and do not consume more calories than stated. I exercise for between an hour and an hour and a half - enough to get me sweating and so I feel the burn.

If anyone can shed any light I'd be really grateful, I am feeling incredibly despondent and like I want to give up. I have worked so hard and so far it's been for nothing.

A couple of ideas come to mind.

I believe that you are not cheating on the calories - but is it possible that calculation error is creeping into things... Have you checked the utube link in post 1 of this thread:

Also - it may be worth you checking the sodium content of your diet and seeing if you get any change if you ensure that you are eating less than 2300mg sodium per day... It could be that water retention is keeping you from goal... That happened to me in 2009... I got totally stuck at the end of a long project and spent about 13 months trying to lose the last 21 pounds after halving my bodyweight in the previous 13 months and staying on plan... I did not have any idea what was keeping me from goal (and I was very experienced and in a solid mindset)... Then I counted my sodium and dropped 13 pounds in 5 weeks of doing that taking me to goal. It appeared that I had dieted away the fat long before and had been retaining a heap of water that just needed to be flushed out of my body...

Great advice above. I have nothing to add except... You can do it if you stick at it :)
I really had no idea about sodium and water retention. This is great info to have thanks.

There are a few tips I can give you. I have recently became a beach body coach and here things like this all the time. You need to watch the sugar and sodium levels from all the fruit you are taking in. You want to drink a lot of water but there is such thing as too much water. I would suggest adjusting your diet and work out plan. 5 times a week is great but are you just doing the same things over and over? Your body needs change, and a little cheating is ok. I have one cheat meal a week (in moderation) and its to throw off the metabolism which will kick it in high gear. Protein shakes in the morning are a GREAT idea. The best time to work out is either before your first meal or after you last. I can help you! I have been there :)

What do you base these statements on?

LOL - people may think that a beach body coach is some sort of personal trainer but it actually is a job title within one organisation selling meal replacement drinks for a salesperson who earns commission on their sales... As such - it doesnt really surprise me that they are keen on protein shakes...

I prefer real food - and would opt for fruit with 0% Greek yoghurt every time.
