Newly Married, gaining, cant lose..Please Help

Long story short, I have gained 15-20 lbs since I married in June. I need help bad. Before the wedding I did everything I could to lose weight, including diet pills. I swear they took my memory  I have struggled with losing weight since I had my first child 7 years ago. Using diet pills I flutuated up and down for the the last 7 years, but now I am the heaviest I have ever been. I try my best to eat healthy, it is very expensive to eat healthy. I do not get very much exercise because of my work schedule and my children's extra curricular activities. My daughter is in gymnastics and basketball two nights a week and my son plays b-ball one night a week. The other three days are for home work and a decent home cooked meal. I had joined a local gym but discontinued my membership because of the guilt of taking my kids from one "day care" if you will to another one and the lack of "family time". I went today and purchased Slim Fast with hopes of starting it next week and replacing breakfast and lunch with one can. I really dont like doing those types of things because I feel like once you stop utilizing them, the weight will come back.

I bought a kick boxing DVD and I have a Gazelle (sp) but use either of them very rarely due to a severe knee injury in college. I have no cartlidge in my left knee so anytime I bend, sqat, jump, etc, it is bone on bone so you can imagine the pain and I have had a ligment replacement (ACL). I thought about swimming but being a black female with my hair, really not an option. Can someone please help me. PLEASE...advise!! My husband tell me ALL the time that I have to make time for myself, but my kids are young 7 and 3 and I feel like my time is later, I have to be there for them now because I decided to be a mother.

A lot of my fattness(yeah made up) is genetics, my mom & sister has really skinny legs and arms but their back, sides and stomach is big also. As you can imagine being a former college athlete, made of nothing but muscles and bones, my current state is FRUSTRATING!!!! HHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPP!

Hi! I know how you feel!

Let me tell you, I"m a mother too, and only recently have I realized how important it is to have time to yourself! I have a 7 yr old and a 3 yr old and I too struggled for a long time w/ believing that to be a better mother, I needed to be there 24/7 for my kids. BUT the fact is, since I've started going out once in a while by myself, I've started loosing weight, I'm going to church again...I feel ssooo alive! I feel like a human being again! I really believe that my kids pick up on my better attitude and self esteem. I really feel its going to impact them in such a positive way.

I have lost 30 pds doing the 1200 cal diet (mind you I didn't stay onthe diet like i should have, or I would have lost more weight) ITs a GREAT diet,I never feel hungry and I can still have my chocolate! I have a bowl of cerial, or some toast(if i'm on the go) for breakfast, a lean cusine for lunch,(those are fast and easy) and then a decent dinner.

Whatever you decide to do, we are here for you! Good luck in the new year hun and let me know if you have any questions!!

Thank you so much for responding to my posting. I have slowly started to realize how important self is. In my realization I become frustrated trying to figure out the when, the where, etc I can fit in time for me to exercise.

I am such a results oriented person and that plays against me. If/when I dont see results I get demotivated. How long did it take you to loose 30lbs...I just have to say it again...that is awesome!!

Can you tell me more about the 1200 cal diet, I would love to do it, something is better than nothing. Do you exercise? How often?

I have to do something, it is slowly starting to depress me, affect my attitude, my marriage, etc.

Hi,

I'm new here myself. My weight keeps climbing since having kids. Make time for yourself, everyone will benefit. I need to take my own advice:p I'll be starting slim-fast on the 15th. Good luck! The people here are great.

Hi June Bride!
I hear ya! I got married in MAy and gained 15 pounds between May and September! Didn't even know that was possible but I refuse to get COMFORTABLE in my marriage :) The way I rationale buying expensive food that is healthy is that it's better for me. Although I feel guilty buying frozen broccoli and cheese (my new addiction) because of the high cost I figure it's a much better substitute than say 2 bags of chips and a chocolate bar. You need to do what is best for you and what will turn bad habits into your good way of life decisions. If I may suggest, don't take the pills or slim fast because they are not long term healthy solutions and from what I hear they make you gain the weight back plus more after the fad is over. Stick to veggies, fruits and meat. Drink at least 2 L of water, stay away from refined sugar and I promise you'll start seeing results...I did. As for exercise, take small brisk steps...walk 1/2 hour with your kids around the block or go for a stroll with your hubby. Exercise doesn't have to be anything strenous. My philosophy on exercise is enjoy whatever you decide to do otherwise you won't stick to it...
Look forward to bouncing ideas back and forth

Just started today...

Hi, I just started my healthy lifestyle 2 days ago. I have yet to weigh or measure myself but know it is not going to be pretty. Just turned 30 last week and know if I don't change lifestyles now my body will be going downhill fast. I struggle with getting motivated after work around 5.30pm EST to go and work out. I would appreciate some encouraging emails if anyone is up for it:)

I am in the semi newly married boat also. I have also been laid off. And although that should give me more time to work out, I am too depressed to do it. I have gotten better with the junk food in the last 2 weeks, I just can't make the step to start working out.

I can give you the advice as far as what I have been doing so far. I met with my wt councelor (a service offered free if you have insurance thru where I work) and I have been going to her for about a month now. I have lost 2.5 inches off my waist and I have lost a little over 7pounds since seeing her. I took all the junk food out of my hosue...well some I have to leave here for my husband to eat. But I put it in a different spot then where all my other food is so I wont even be tempted by it. I work out about 2-3 times a week...all i have time for with my schedule of full time college and fullt ime work. If i want a snack I grab grapes, apple, orange or carrots and dip (light dip). I dont know what else I can tell you. If you are concerned about spending time with your kids...i would go wtih the advice from above about going for a walk with the kids...have them ride their bikes while you walk or ride bikes with them. anyways...if i can be of more help let me know.
