Hi there!

Just joined today. Had the intragastric balloon inserted last week Thursday. Going well (it took a while!) and looking forward to the "new me". :)

Hi Mariana,
Welcome to the WLF :)

I really don't know anything about how the intragastric balloon works, will it have to be removed, does it disappear on it's own? What are your life style changes or nutritional changes do you have?

Consider opening a diary so we can get to know you :)

Best wishes,

Hi, thanks everyone! Been keeping a diary, not sure how to start one on the site, will look around and see. Will keep you posted.

It is a soft expandable balloon made of a soft and pliable silicone elastomer material. A gastroscopy is done under anesthesia, and the balloon is filled with sterile saline solution, it is inserted for six months. The balloon fills space in the stomach, giving a feeling of fullness.

The procedure lasts 10 minutes & I had one nights stay in the hospital. I expected a sore throat, but it didnt happen. I felt terrible though for the first couple of days, had to take a week off work. But now much better. Not feeling hungry at all, yet I have an appetite.

For four days after the procedure, I was on a strict liquid diet - water, juice & nestle nutren. For four days after that I slowly added yoghurt & soup to my diet. Today is my last day of the following four days in which I was on a semi-solid diet, which consisted of 3 small toasts & cheese for breakfast, a cup of pasta & 30g lean meat for lunch & a similar dinner.

I have my first appointment with a nutritionist tomorrow. Not sure what to expect but can only be helpful.

My husband's been great about this, helping with the measurements and keeping my food separate to his. He still lives a "normal" life! I havent had any complications. Cant really complain about anything. I cant sleep on my left side anymore, and I sometimes get this "pressing" feeling halfway down my throat (best I can describe it) - that's about it.

I have also gone back to the gym. Got myself a personal trainer, and planning on working out at least 3 times a week. Last night was my first day at the gym after the procedure, it went well, just didnt want to do many ab-repetitions!

Congratulations on getting healthy. To start a diary go to the Diary section and start a new thread. Post on the same thread everyday and let us know how its going.

I hope you enjoy WLF as much as I do. Its a great motivator and keeps me going strong.
