I have never joined a group like this before because I usually try to keep my weight struggles to myself, but this time I think I want some objective input.
I am a full-time student, 1 1/2 years in to medical school. I recently got married, and between the stresses of the two I have put on over 10 lbs. I felt that I was already overweight to begin with (at least for my body type), so it has been a real struggle.
Seven weeks ago I started dieting and exercising, and I dropped 7 lbs. I was so excited, but because of the calorie reductions (1400 cal/day) and extreme exercise (over 1 hr/day), I ended up getting sick (a horrible cold/flu) and having to stop working out for 2 wks. I ended up gaining all 7 of the lbs back.
This time, I want to do it right. I have consulted a dietician and found out that I should be eating 1700 cal/day. To me that sounds like a lot, but I will do as she says
I am going to work out 5-7 days a week like I was, but alternate the cardio so I won't wear down my immune system.
An added problem with this is I have a history of an eating disorder (bulemia nervosa) and I don't feel that I am reverting to old habits, but I definitely think about it. In addition, my mom just started getting treatment for her overeating disorder, which reminds me about my original problems every time I talk to her.
I know I'm not trying to lose a huge amount of weight and I know that my goals are not unreasonable, but what I need is support to help me keep doing this in a healthy and not obsessive way.
That is what I am hoping to get from this group, and if you have any advice for me I welcome it.
