Newcomer...and WANTING TO LOSE IT AND KEEP IT OFF!

Hello Forum World.

I'm an architecture student, and I fell behind by 2 years. It has taken a blow to my health, well-being, and self-confidence.

In my freshmen year, I entered having a weight of 250lbs-240lbs...and getting used to first year had some weight loss. By the end of my second year, I decided to lose weight in the summer and I brought my weight from 240lbs to 210lbs from May-August. I felt happy about that, but I gained soo quickly after it.

When I started struggling in my school year in my Third year, dropping and failing courses. I began to indulge in alot of bad habits. Architecture and design students tend to stay up all-night alot during the school year for deadlines. Another bad habit was since I was a commuter, I would always resort to fast food almost every day. sometimes eating junk food and binge eat when I am doing my all-nighters or when I was stressed.

I'm now currently (three years later) on to my final year. However I gained what I lost and more.

I'm 257lbs with a height of 5'7". I am currently 23 years old male and I wanna lose it and not gain it back and more like last time.. I started to avoid coffee and sweet drinks, incorporate more fruits and vegetables, as well as going to the gym for more intensive workouts and jogging(well walking for most bit) in the neighbourhood since it's summer time..

I do not know what's a safe goal for weight loss...Ideally, I wanna be 200lbs before the end of summer, but I'm not sure how realistic it is. I've seen MTV's 'I used to be fat" - and though I am inspired, I dunno if 4-5lbs/week is a safe bet (I think the safest weight loss is 2.5lbs a week if anything).

I wanna graduate slim for graduation (which is in a year, June 2012) but also with good healthy eating and living habits to avoid gaining it back.

Any advice, tips will be greatly appreciated.

Hi.
Good Luck with your goal of being slim for graduation.
There are so many ways to loose weight that it all gets rather confusing. Healthy eating is definitely the way to go. I have a friend who went on a pretty expensive diet and lost at least 10 stone in a short period of time, which was great But the problem comes when you stop the diet, everything you eat makes you put on weight, especially if you have not changed the bad eating habits. I have also heard that it is not healthy to loose weight too fast especially if you want to keep it off.

So I think the best way is slow and steady, Change what we eat, eat better, add exercise and start feeling better about yourself.

I am 192lb and only 5ft which does not help matters. personally I find that I start loosing weight when I eat 5 small meals, and less starch, But everyone is different and you have to find what works for you and also what you can live with.
Take care
Good Luck
