i am a 21 (almost 22) year old female who is disabled, i use to be very in shape, toned and active but with my disability and medication it has brought me down and i have gained a good amount of weight :( and i feel as though its not helping my disability or my health. i work in a restaurant, so im ALWAYS around food and always end up picking and munching on dumb things, so i am looking for some advice and help with what easy things i can do to loose weight mainly belly fat, also a good diet i could start - i am allergic to dairy and i am sensitive to sugar and maybe even a way to get some good motivation going.

some more information,
i am 5'6 and 240lbs, i am on gabapentin, junel birth control and meloxicam. i have fibromyalgia and i have a positive HLA b27 which we are believed is a start of ankylosing spondylitis.

Hey, welcome to the forums. I'm actually a support worker for disabled people and have a child I look after who has ankylosing spondylitis. It's quite rare in children (and women, I believe?).

First of all, make simple changes. Stop picking at food at the restaurant. Pack yourself healthy snacks and meals to have whilst at work and stick to them. That change alone could make a huge difference. Do you do any exercise at all right now? Much walking? Maybe add an extra 0.5 mile or so onto a walk you already do every day and see how you get along. Just make small changes to your daily routine.

I'd also recommend making a diary in the diary section we have here--Log your daily food and people can give you feedback on where you are going wrong and help support you with your weight loss :)

I agree completely with Sunflower, start small and start a food diary.

Another thing I would suggest is to start paying attention to your posture (I know this can be very hard when you're in constant pain). I'm not sure what the rate of progression of ankylosing spondylitis is, but I once had a client (in his 50's) who had AS, and was 'stuck' in a rounded shoulder position due to calcification between his vertebrae.

Keep checking in and let us know how things are going or if you have questions! :)

Cheers,

P.

Great job on adding the exercise... Just make sure that the exercise you're doing now is relatively comfortable and as pain-free as you can get before adding more.

The atkins diet can be tough! If you start a thread in the weight loss diary section, you may be able to get some support/advice from others who have used the same diet!

Good luck and keep checking in!

Welcome to the forum and good luck!
Keep us updated! I would love to hear from you! I think it's great that you're doing this - and I hope that it makes you feel better. Chronic (and constant) pain is awful, and sometimes hard to make you motivated to change your exercise habits! But you seem like a strong, positive and motivated woman! Which is so inspiring to see!

If you start a diary, please let us know! I would love to check it out :)
