Hi Everyone

Ive joined this forum to try and stick to my new years resolution, every year i start but i dont have any support or motivation so always end up failing.

I thought maybe support from people in a similar situation might spur me on.

My names Kim and im 26 in a few weeks and currently weigh 18.4 stones :(. I have been heavier, i was 19 stone about 6 months ago, and havnt been trying to loose weigh but have. Im 5 ft 6.
It really upsets me, id love to be slimmer

Any tips guys :)

Kim xx

Tip One: Read the stickies.

Tip Two: Don't rely on others to provide you motivation. Sure, external sources of motivation are helpful, but what happens when they're not there or don't respond the way you expect?

You fail.

Which you discovered.

It's best to figure out ways to internally motivate yourself. This way, you're in control.

Welcome!

What Steve said... the stickies are a great source of information, and the best motivation you can possibly have comes from within. I learned (the hard way!) that you have to WANT to lose weight... that's the best motivation right there.

By WANT... I had it as borderline obsession this time around. It worked for me.

Reading through the diaries in that section should give you some good inspiration, as will taking a look through the before & after pics. And if you choose to start a diary for yourself, that will give you a good place for personal accountability, and a place for others to post feedback, encouragement, advice, etc.

Good luck!

I'm experiencing the same thing. I worry a little that i'm obsessing over it. this is a first time around actually trying to lose weight so i kind of feel like i should end up failing since everyone else has done it again and again. but at the same time I couldnt imagine not thinking, living, breathing weight loss... I'ts not a diet, it's not a program. It's a Lifestyle. I constantly have people telling me "it's okay you need to cheat on your diet once in a while" they just dont understand i'm not dieting, this is my life I eat whatever I want just like anyone else, just within a limit thats right for me... Some seem to feel it's excessive but IMO it's the state of mind needed to make it work... I usually try not to argue with these people i just keep going on knowing whats right and what works for me, they can keep their yo-yo dieting :coolgleamA:

That is so amazing that you can live like that. That is my goal... eat whatever I want but in moderation. I have tried before but never really works. I guess everything worth while is hard at first... if it were easy I wouldn't be where I am right now.

It's definately not easy and believe me I have my bad days. but as you go it's like a live and learn thing... I used to pull my hair out at a pound increase and feel like it's not worth it. But when it comes down to it I want this more then anything in the whole world and how good i feel even only being 15 lbs down is so completely worth it... I'm not even a model eaterI eat anything i want in one day as long as it adds up to 2000 calories at the end of the day. I one day hope to have a whole new menu to my diet but for now I'm adjusting little by little... heres an example of one of my worse days of what I ate in a day from my diary I keep to religiously.

12/21/2008
Bowl Of Cereal W/ 2% Milk -200 Cals
2 Pieces Pizza -360 Cals
10 Crackers -60 Cals
2 Pieces Pizza -360 Cals
Orange -75 Cals
5 Chicken strips -625 Cals
Scalloped Potatoes -340 Cals
Broccoli w/butter -70 Cals
_________
2090 Cals

not my idea of perfect. I ate a lot of fattening things that day but i did my best to stay under 2000 calories and this is what i live by taking it one day at a time trying to get better and better as i go... It's not just my diet I'm changing. the rest of my family has to go with it too as i refuse to make different meals for myself and my family. so it not easy to make a dramatic change in diet. not to mention when your living on a budget sometimes you have to eat whats available so your goal is to make it work for you caloric intake. eventually im going to have to lower my intake as my body becomes smaller so i'm making these changes slowly to help me get to where i can easily do that and never be hungry and never feel deprved. i should also add that i only really drink water to avoid adding extra unnecessary calories. it may be harder for people who dont have a taste for water. i've always loved water so it comes easily to me. but you may want to try to substitute some of your drinks in a day to water to help avoid hundreds of extra calories a day.

Yeah, I love water luckily. I have been trying to drink only water the past few days and I notice that I actually end up drinking a lot less, not nearly what I should be. So that is my goal right now.. get up to 8 glasses of water a day.

I know what you mean about the budget though... it really does make it hard to eat right, but I love to cook so I just try to cook as healthy as I can...

Same as you though I make my family eat what I do too... they may not appreciate it right now, but I hope someday that they will.
