Hey guys,

I am a 21 year old male, and I weigh approx 240 lbs at 5'10". I let myself get ridiculously overweight my first two years of college weighing in at around 301 lbs. On February 20th I started a lifestyle change and started working out daily and eating much better. I eat between 1800 and 2800 calories a day, and I don't eat quite as healthy as I did when I first started the diet, yet I still don't endulge in fried foods etc. I have a busy schedule so I usually walk/jog 3 miles on a treadmill or walk/job between 4 and 7 miles on my local walking trail on my "free" days. I lost the weight pretty steadily and when I got in the "240s" I just seemed to slow and/or stop losing weight (plateau). I have been in the mid to low 240s for the last few weeks and can't seem to lose any more. It's very discouraging because I'm ready to get down to my goal weight of 180-190. I also have been taking a supplement xenedrine with green coffee bean extract, but I only take it once a day before I work out for an energy boost, and it doesn't seem to help much anymore, sort of like I have become immune to it's affects.

I would appreciate any imput and/or advice from you guys, I'm on a mission I just want to complete it!!!!

Have you tried dropping your calorie intake or increasing your activity? 2800 calories is still quite a lot in my thoughts.

Welcome to the forum.

Well done on your weight loss so far. Sixtyone pounds is very impressive.

How has your calorie target reduced as you have lost weight? Naturally you will burn less calories as you move a 240 pound body compared to what you burnt as you moved a 301 pound body.

We do have to reduce our calorie target as we go on...

I have to say that I find the 1800 to 2800 calorie range to be a very wide range... It kind of gives you scope to have a 12,600 calorie week or a 19,600 calorie week and consider them to be much the same thing... Potentially a 7,000 calorie difference in calories (equivalent to two pounds gain or loss) that you can just ignore as being pretty much the same thing...

The fact that you are not eating as healthily as you did could bring another reason for the stalled weight loss... Some things like drinking enough water and calcium consumption can influence how much weight we lose... things can enhance our weight loss... if your less healthy food means that you are having less water or calcium - then that can have an effect.

I am afraid that I cannot comment about the diet pills because I have never used any or believed in them... I have read so many negative comments about them not helping much in the long term (and sometimes causing a heap of problems) that I have no personal experience of them... I can say that you do not need them because if you eat a healthy diet with plenty of protein you will probably get a great energy boost from just being so light weight now... I have often described myself as a human jumping bean I have so much energy compared to the old big me...

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends
