Newbie looking for workout routine

Hi everyone. I used to come here and even started some exercizes a few years ago. There used to be a guy named Jean Paul, I think, and he was pretty good.

Well, I finally got my affairs in order (now there is just a baby scheduled for september) and decided to workout again but not at a gym. I bought a 160 lbs barbell set and dumbells at 10 lbs, 15 lbs, 20 lbs, 25 lbs, and so on until 45 lbs. I also bought a bench with barbell bar, leg curls, etc.

I am 5, 10" tall, weight 132 lbs and I am 32 years old.

I'm pretty rusted and want to gain muscle weight and tone my abdomen.

Can anyone please help me develop a workout program to start?

I know it might sound pretty stupid but I was trying to develop a body similar to er... arghh... Tobey Maguire on spiderman. Darn it I sound infantile and dumb but it was the only example I could think of.

Thanks again and I hope I can become regular in this forum again and learn from you folks. My wife will probably try to get some workout herself after the baby.

heres a some rough ideas for you

isn't that Tobey Mcguire skinny rather than muscular ?
so when someone use the expression "develop a body similar" to him.... Man I don't get it :D
If u were to tell me I dunno, brad pitt in fight club or snatch then yea I would be like ;) ... but Tobey Mcguire!! Come on!! be ambitious

I want the same as Brad Pitt in fight club or Edward Norton in American History X!!! :D

Man I wonder how long does it take!!

aaaahahah

i shot for the toby mcguire from spiderman body too. i got it as well although i've taken a bit of a break from lifting so my shoulders are a bit slimmer than his and my chest is a bit bigger (not really a problem tho)

thats so funny that u say that, toby had a really good balanced athletic body for that movie. working ur inner and upper pecs, obliques (big time) biceps/triceps shoulders and upper back, those seem to be what the main focus was on. Not a lot on traps or lats.

funny u should ask...

for a while i was recording them every two weeks.

my last measurements were...

6'4 (just a wee bit taller than mcguire)

32 inch waiste
44 inch chest (across nipples)
41.5 inch chest (from top of arm pit) (this means i placed the measuring strip directly under my arm pit and around my upper body)
15.5 inch right arm
14.8 inch left arm

the most important part to getting the toby mcguire spiderman shape is the thin waiste (i guess im kinda lucky i naturally have it) so u want a low body fat.

however i would like to say that u should give urself about 8 weeks of solid strenght training, just trying to increase ur overall size and strength before u dive into what kinda body u want. Make sure u can bench and curl and do squats the right way, run for about three miles and not be sore the next day. I recommend u seek some proffesional help (sounds kinda odd) before u start working out. After 8 weeks or longer (once u feel confident with ur strength) then u can dive into a certain body type.

if u got any more questions feel free to ask.

Novice, I don't know if you saw spiderman, but the skinny body on the beggining of the movie was an visual effect. He pumped some iron for months prior to the movie in order to look good in the spider suit. Man, whar a dork reply I wrote.

mike, thanks for the help. Ive been currently working out since mid-January, but have been lifting weights correctly for about the last 15-20 weeks. I spent most of that time losing fat. My measurements now are 150 lb, 5'11", 39 in chest, 30.5 inch waist, 12 inch arms. Id wanna gain about 3 inches on my chest and arms and generally get bigger in the next 8 weeks. What would you recommend after that to tone down to what toby looked like? How do you keep the muscle mass there as well?

Oh allright then :D
I didn't see the movie and I still had the image of seabiscuit in mind :D
ok got it now :p

what i did

it is important to keep the body fat low. but its even more important to eat right.

this is an example of my diet, may not work for u cuz every body is different,

breakfast
3 eggs, milk, orange juice, small serving of fruit

two hours later
high protein low cal protein shake (check out reevesnutrition.com) i go with the ultra whey (125 calories and 25 grams of protein a serving)

lunch
salad (maybe with chicken)
or tuna sandwich

two hours later
something like a hamburger patty, a tablespoon of peanut butter, carrots or nuts

dinner
usually high protein something, like steak, grilled chicken, fish,

before bed
nuts, veggies

i drink mostly water, no soda, milk, and organic juice, sometimes soy milk

also, make friends with a jump rope, 10 minutes of jump rope is equal to 3 miles (something like that) good way to get in some aerobics. also, muscle burns more fat than fat does, so the more muscle u gain...the more fat ur burn.

i wouldnt recommend doing my exact diet, it may work for u, but people are differtn so it may not be effective, or it may be destructive. and remember to work ur obliques if u wanna look like spidey.

any more questions feel free to ask.

diet is the most important part to staying lean.

That seems rather slim...how many calories did you eat a day? I need at least 3000 to gain weight, I'd probably go on that kind of diet when I decided to tone up.

not many

not many calories, over 2000, prob around 2400. lots of protein.
going organic helps u tone down, not eating organic chocolate but eating healthy and eating organic because it wont have steriods or corn syrup (starch?) in it which can cause a body fat increase.
