Hello all,
I am completely new at anything even remotely related to dieting and exercise, seems there are a lot of conflicting opinions doing basic research on the internet.
I'm a 5'11 male with a pretty large frame, and I went from 180 to 280 over the last 3 years. I have never eaten well, but a few years ago switched from factory work (heavy lifting) to a desk job, and my hobbies went from basketball and playing in a band to world of warcraft. =P It's not an image thing for me, I am married to a wonderful women (whose only infuriating trait is her seemingly endless metabolism without need of diet and exercise) and I know she doesn't care. I recently (last month) switched to third shift and unfortunetly my weight went up to 290. I decided I owed it to myself and my wife to get in shape, and we have a baby on the way now, and I don't want him to see his papa in such poor condition physically.
The first thing I did was stop drinking energy drinks. I haven't had any for 3 weeks, as opposed to 2-3 NOS's a day. I saw about 10 pounds drop off from that, surprisingly after about a week. I switched up my diet about 2 weeks ago, and am going from god knows how many calories to 1200-1400 a day, and traded a meal for a slimfast. I haven't really seen my weight go down anymore, so for the past 3 days I (for the first time ever) started exercising. It's ridiculous how out of shape I am, I commited to 20 mins of cardio and was winded after ~2. I've gotten to about 7-8 mins without absolutely needing to stop (been using a stair master) I am a little concerned tho because I don't really feel anything after the sweat breaks and my heart stops pounding... I don't know the best way to go about all this, but I am commited and have pretty good self control once I set my mind to something, so any advice would be great in the exercise and diet arena. The only thing is I want to completely avoid any sort of muscle building activity. I have a horomone imbalance that makes me bulk extremely quickly, I actually got stretch marks on my arms and legs just from muscle growth when doing heavy lifting in the factory, and i was in great shape then.
Thanks everyone! Look forward to browsing around and hearing other's stories.
