Newbie In The Weight Room

Okay guys. Just recently, I've majorly changed my diet and i am still working into it right now. However, my current diet is a cutting diet (1700-2000 cals a day) and im doing cardio 5 times a week. In other news, Im getting a full gym membership tomorrow, and i'll be hitting the gym in the morning on Mon, Wed, and Friday. Warming up with cardio on either treadmill or elliptical machine (which one is better), then doing a full body workout. This is where my newbie -ness comes in. Can one of you guys refer me to a good site or post that gives me somewhat specific info on a full body workout and what to do and whatnot? Also I will be eating something light (piece of fruit) or something before working out, then coming home to eat a protein shake and oatmeal for my 1st meal of the day. How does this sound?

Thanks for all your help!

Can you post more details like your height, weight, age and goals please?

I can guess already though that you're working on a serious calorie deficite, 1700-2000 calories a day!!! I've eatten that before noon. However, as it is possible that you're a 4ft pigmy I'll wait until you post your details before giving advice

Thanks

agree with CCR thats low cals, also take your shake before working out there are many pre-made fullbody workouts out there if you want to search
you could try this site
or try something similar to this mon, wed, fri,
A)
squat
incline bench
chins
shoulder press
bent-over-row
B)
deadlift
dips
pulldowns
db-shoulder-press
low-pulley-rows
if you do an A)B) routine you can fit in all your exercises horizontal/vertical pulls/pushes etc.
cocentrate on the basic compound moves they use up more energy so you dont need to many exercises if you want to add isos for bis/tris thats up to you.
if you want to do cardio i would say do it on non weight days but if you can only do it on weight days do it after weights and no more than 20mins.

yeah, cardio 5 times a week and lifting 3 times might be a bit much. Its all about progression, build yourself up.

and i agree with others, sounds like too low on the cals, even though you are cutting you dont want to loose alot of muscle or make your body go into "starvation mode"

I am 5'5, 120 pounds. I mean, i do cardio 5 days a week now, its not like im going to be intimidated by all of the work and stuff. My body fat is around 20% or so, too. Is doing cardio 5 days a week and working out 3 days a week a bad idea, or just intimidating to someone who has never worked out before? Also, I heard that doing cardio before lifting was a better idea than lifting then doing cardio? I was planning on doing 20 min or so of cardio before lifting to get warmed up, then lift. Is this a bad idea?

Thanks again

a warmup should not tax you. 20 mins of cardio should tax you, so its not a warmup.

5'5 and 120 pounds, you cant really be fat. If you have worked yourself up to doing cardio 5 times a week then i guess its ok. but i still think its too much. and depending on what kind of cardio you do, you could easily start burning muscle. but that will depend on your diet.

You have a BMI of 20 which just scrapes in as healthy but when you take into account your age (BMI usually underestimates levels of muscle on young people making the safe range for them higher) then you are definately under weight. You need to be eatting more, lifting more and cutting down on the cardio

thats what im suspecting aswell

do a 5min warm up cardio+weights 3x a wk HIIT on non weight days.

if you want to do cardio on weight days do 20mins ss-cardio after weights IMO.
