Newbie here - Need your advice

I'm a 6'1.5 guy weighing 165 lbs but I usually bulk up around winter time and go down to 155 lbs during the summer - I'm really small framed so my norm. is about 155. Since the exercise bike which I used before to slim down during the spring months broke and it's not worth buying again, as I'm going to University, I have another plan.

I've recently discovered the wonderful benefits of fibre supplements, one of them being appetite suppressing. I'm wondering if anyone does what I do, which is:

1) Eat hypocaloric diet of about 700~1200 calories(full for about 4 hours)
2) Drink 36 grams+ of dietary fibre(full for the rest of the day, super bloated)

I will probably only do this during weekends or when I don't have anything to do because I hate the bloated feeling when I try to buckle my pants. I usually will eat ~1800 calories as I'm not an active guy.

I'm just worried that my body will develop a tolerance to it, will this happen?
What are your thoughts on my plan? I don't think I can go to the gym because I usually just find a reason to buy stuff outside to eat after I finish working out.

Well, my thoughts are that your idea to have 700-1200 cals is way to low for a man. 1200 is the lowest amt of cals a woman should consume.

why don't you take the time to read the forum stickies, located in the 'on topic' section..its loaded with great nutritional advice!

Hi Daruki and welcome. I agree that sounds too little. Since I've been here I've learnt that having too little is detrimental to your long term health and loosing weight slowly but consistantly over time is the best way to do it.

My thoughts on your plan are to tackle the reasons you feel the urge to eat after the gym. Perhaps you are not getting enough to eat? Having a banana is a good source of energy. Perhaps you could go to the gym or even do some free exercise like walking, or gardening and make sure you have a snack to have when you need it.

Truth is I've struggled with weight all my life - only two years ago I was 30 lbs heavier. It was through some major dieting and exercise that I was able to lose all that weight, which during the process of, I learned that my metabolism is really slow. I ate around ~1800 calories and exercised 500 calories off and it took me about 4 months to lose those 30 lbs, so I realized that my metabolism is significantly lower than the average male of my weight and height. I probably stand around burning ~2000 calories when doing light activities, which is about 300~400 calories lower than the average man's.

I believe the reasons to eat after exercising are pretty psychological and I don't know how to resolve it. I always feel like that since I worked out, I can eat up that defeceit of calories, which is usually the case.

Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone's tried this method before?
