Hi there, my name is Melanie and I live in Cambridge in the UK.

My long-term partner and I have decided to get married in October so I need to lose weight, and sharpish, if I'm to look good in the dress of my dreams.

I started my diet on 3rd March, when I weighed 17st10lbs (or 248lbs) - grotesque I know - and since then I've managed to lose 15lbs.

I don't really have a target weight, other than as much as I can safely lose by the wedding that won't just come piling back on.

If you make the necessary lifestyle changes and stick to them then it won't come piling back on. But that's the key, it's not a short-term thing. It's how you choose to live. An active life with a proper diet or a sedentary one with a poor diet.

Congrats on the first 15! There's a wealth of information on proper nutrition here. I don't think it's unreasonable to aim for the 170s in the time frame you need. That's averaging about 2.5-3 lbs per week.

The active life is the hard part - I have knee trouble after I crashed my motorbike (some years ago, although probably not helped by the extra weight) so this restricts what I can do, although most holidays and weekends away usually involve seeing ancient monuments and ruins and clambering about them when I get the chance.

I'm looking forward to getting more energy for this.

Hello and Welcome Melanie!
It's great you came along on here, you'll learn a lot around here
It's wonderful that you've decided to change your life style
It'll be one hard fight to become someone your searching for, but stay on track and don't give up
Whevever your about to eat something "unhealthy" think about your Dream Wedding Dress
If you can try going for a walk. Do it slowly and drink lots of water =)

If I'm really honest, I don't stop thinking about my dream wedding dress ;)

So far I've not actually been missing any of my usual naughty foods like chocolate, cakes and chips, but I'm putting that down to the natural high I'm currently on.
