Newb Question

hey guys, new here
just a quick overview and questions
i just started working out about 3 weeks ago, trying to get into a good routine. currently i make it to the gym 3x a week. i am mainly aiming towards working my upperbody (chest, arms, abs) no legs for now, i play hockey 4 times a week and have done for the past 9 years. im 17 years old, 6'4" 235lbs. the reason for not working my legs is that right now my legs are extremely strong especially in comparison to the rest of my body, i would like to catch everything else up and then incorporate legs into my routine. well here it is, i usually hit the gym, like i said, 3x a week, i do 6 sets of 8 on the following: bench, curling, butterfly (machine), a machine for my triceps, and also a machine for my shoulders, sorry im not sure what those last two are called. i was jsut wondering if that sounds ok? 6 sets of 8 reps ok? too much? too little? i usually feel pretty good after i leave and then the next day a little sour, not unbearable, just a little sore.
Any help/comments are greatly appreciated
thanks

ok

i pretty sure you know about this but you should increase the wieght or reps every 1 or 2 weeks cause your body will get used to the wight and then working out is basicly useless and trust me these things take time so hope it helps.

There is nothing wrong with 6 sets. This is a decent place to start for you. I was on a squatting routine at one time where I did 10 sets of 5. Very effective for mass gain as long as you are getting the proper rest and diet. It's important to feel like you accomplished something while you are in the gym. You mentioned that you feel good the next day...this is as it should be. Make sure to change up your workout in cycles every few weeks to shock the body.

This is a link to a mass building program for legs, but the rep/set scheme works for different muscles.

Robert13, you are not experienced enough to be giving out advice.
