:waving:Hi my name is Ken. I've lost 15lbs and need to lose another 20lbs. Ive got a question. Does anyone know what the healthiest butter substitute is?

Hi Ken! I'm also new here! I want to say that you should be especially proud- 15lbs is fantastic! Good luck! And I wish I knew the healthiest butter substitute! is this for eating? baking? cooking?

Welcome Ken!

No, I don't know what the healthiest butter substitute (I use Country Crock), its good and the cheapest I found for my budge. Myself I don't go out and buy a lot of died stuff, I just cut back on the foods I do use.

Hi Tik welcome to you again too.

Hey Ken,

Congratulations on the weight loss, and welcome to the forum!

As for a healthy butter substitute... I think it depends on what you need it for, as Tik has already asked.

I just quickly looked through the cupboards, and it looks like olive oil and grapeseed oil have approx. the same calories per tbsp. When compared to butter (salted), olive and grapeseed oil have no cholesterol, no sodium (salt), and way less saturated fat than butter. These would work for cooking many dishes, but I'm not sure what a good substitute in baking would be.

I looked up the nutrition facts on butter here:

so if you're curious, you could look up many different oils, butters, margarine, etc.

Cheers,

PLB

For baking I often use a banana or apple sauce as a substitute for oil/butter! :) For baking the oil/butter is often to add moisture - substituting it with the fruit gives it amazing moisture and an extra exciting taste!!

If you're looking for something to put on toast, pancakes, potatoes, etc. you may want to try some light margarine! :)

Like Tik said you could use banana or applesauce as a sub for eggs or oils (including butter) when it comes to baking.

I also watched an episode of Hungry Girl and she substituted eggs, oil, and everything for pumpkin. It looked quiet delicious.

As for butter specifically, I some times use a butter flavored seasoning that's salt-less. It's very buttery tasting ^_^

You could also try to look up different kinds of oils.
