New Year's Resolutions (another member of the club :) )

Hi, I'm new here, and like a lot of people, I'm making weight loss one of my New Year's resolutions. Last summer after graduating college, I taught English in southern Japan, and I lost a lot of weight from the heat, walking to work, the Japanese diet, and stress! However, when I came back, I got really sick and have been ever since. There has been a constant swelling in my throat and sinuses, and the only way it seems to feel normal is by eating. So over the fall, I gained some weight :( I'm seeing a doctor now and starting to feel better. I love working out and I eat healthy normally, but the illness I have is made worse by exercising, so until recently I couldn't do much of it. I couldn't even work for a couple of months because I couldn't breathe properly. It's been a really rough fall and winter so far, I guess.

So now, I'm working out 30-45 minutes a day doing yoga, pilates, or low-impact aerobics. Every now and then when I get a chance, I like to go hiking too. I'm also trying to eat better. Additionally, I'm searching for a new job AND waiting to see if I get into grad school for this coming fall. I'm trying very hard to make this year a great one!! I'm coupling exercise and healthy diet with a positive attitude. Hopefully I will be 12+ lbs lighter by bikini season. I gotta have a fun goal, right? :cheers2:

Nice to meet you all!

Konnichiwa Jeniko (or should i say moshi moshi being that this is an e-mail type thing ;))

Welcome to the board. I completely understand that throat sinuses thing...Although my issues may be different, I have allergies and allergy induced asthma. There are some times during the year that I cannot even get a sentence out too well :svengo: I am verrrry happy to hear that you are feeling better. :D

I totally think you can do 12lbs by bikini season!! There is lots of motivation and support on this board as well as a wealth of knowledge and some really good tips. Hope to see you around. Happy new year!!

Kampai!!:cheers2:

:waving: and welcome!

I'm happy to hear you are seeing a doctor. Too many people try to play doctor themselvs and things can really get out of hand.

Your exercise routine seems right on target, and couple that with a healthy eating plan and you will reach your goal in no time!

Hahaha konnichiwa and thanks for the encouragement guys!

I've been faithfully taking my medicines and I see the doc again tomorrow.. hopefully he has good news for me, as I had a CAT scan & blood work last week.

Today is my day off, I did an extremely difficult pilates workout yesterday and I'm feeling a little sore. I think it'll be ok to take one day off since I've worked out the past 7 days straight. And having soup & salad for dinner :D

P.S. There really is a lot of great info on this site! Glad I stumbled upon it!

And kanpai to you to, pink clouds! :seeya:

hiya jeniko,

I hope everything went well today with the doctor :) I haven't started exercising yet, but I changed my diet and lost 4 lbs this week WOooooHooooo :) I hope I can keep it up the rest of the year :)

Awesome, congrats!! I'm having a little trouble getting the weight loss kick-started. I hope these medications aren't having some weird effect... time to kick it up a notch!

Doc gave me new meds as a last-ditch effort before he sends me to a surgeon *sigh* I sure hope they work so I don't have to get surgery, but at least now I know exactly what the problem is because I got the CAT scan and stuff.

Yes it is such a relief when you finally know what is wrong. In 2006 I was in and out of the doctors and emergency room and it was not until 8 months later that I finally had a diagnosis and was able to feel better finally.

I really hope that the meds work for you and that surgery will not be needed.

Just focus on you and getting better. It is what matters most right now.:grouphug:

Not meaning to sound cliche, but I do want you to be better :)
